Good to see your thread on dv4t because it seems like most people here are just interested in the dv5 and dv7 series. I'm considering to get a dv4t. HP lowered the price by about $100 today.

    I'm pondering between dv4t and dv5t because of 512mb GeForce 9600 and I prefer 14" screen better...

I wanted a small laptop with a good screen + blu-ray and didn't want to fork out the cash for the Sony Z.

The Infinity display option makes it look like the display has a big piece of glass over it, and it goes all the way to the edges for a seamless look. I'd suggest going to an electronics store and see if they have a dv5 on display. My local Best Buy has a dv5z with the Infinity on display.

I went to the Best Buy today and saw dv5z. But I was wondering how good LED screen is it that it costs additional $200.

Personally, I would either buy the standard non-infinity display or the LED.

The infinity makes the screen have a "perfect" reflection and would be too distracting / hard on my eyes. You could use it as a mirror to shave/do makup, its that bad...

Hi. Guys! I finally ordered mine, too! If you see the specs, you'll say it's definitely a waste of money. I know... I know...

But, my current laptop is about four years old. Extremely slow.
dv4t will be my second laptop. And, I hope to use it as long as I can.

I think I decided to go with dv4t after HP started massive sale + free upgrades on her today. I couldn't resist 14 inch + mobility (I had 13.3 inch Vaio SZ450N previously) even over GeForce 9600 and 7200rpm HD. It seems like dv4t is cheaper than dv5t now with discounts. Since release, dv4t was always $100 more expensive than dv5t.

But this HP is a real beauty though. Having visited Best Buy really confirmed my choice. My father has HP and I didn't like how dv6xxx models look. So I didn't expect much for these redesigned models, but they're really sleek and nice. Must see!

I like the price drop! $97 is comming back to me.

Strangesweet, it seems good. Personally, I would go with the t8600, led screen, and a blu-ray player. I dislike the infinity screen because I find it too reflective.

Clayton, did you get a refund for the price difference?

Did you call? I'll call HP tomorrow because I ordered mine yesterday, and it seems like I can save about 50~70 dollars. I will get a refund or buy extra accessories.

Oh... It's sad... I could have upgraded my HD to the 250GB one. :(

What's good with Blu-Ray? I don't know because I don't watch DVDs a lot (I like to watch movie, but mainly I don't have the time)..

I tried configuring according to your recommendation after tweaking some things within my budget, and this came out to $1442

8600, Infinity screen (yea, it seems like it will go over my budget with both LED screen + Blu-Ray - I think I'm okay with Infinity when I checked out at Best Buy), and Blu-Ray

If you really want the 250gb, just cancel and reorder. You might get the laptop a day or two later at worst.

Yes, I did get a refund for the price difference. They said I will get the refund once the item is delivered

On long trips (car, airplane, etc) I like to use my laptop as a media player. Since I've started buying blu-ray movies, I wanted my laptop to be able to play them.

I suppose I will use my refund for future purchase of a 12cell battery.

Is there any measurement for dv4t models? I couldn't find anywhere.

I think I'm pretty sure I will go with dv4t, but deciding between Blu-Ray or Core 2 Duo 9400.

Is there big difference between 8600 and 9400? Isn't 9xxx processors are that recently came out?

The 9400 has 6megs of cache whereas the 8600 has 3 megs of cache. The general consenus on this board is that only with benchmarks could one really tell a difference.

The real difference between them is the "T" vs "P"

The P series chips run at 25watts: The T series chips run at 35watts.
So the P will run cooler and give you more battery life.

Well.. I think it's fine. I won't cancel and re-order. Instead, I will just get the refund when my dv4t arrives. Thank you for answering my question!

I'm hoping to get a 12-cell battery like you :)
But, it seems like HP is not ready to sell batteries for the new dv series as it just began to build new dv series laptops.

Well, I ordered my dv4t. I decided to go with Blu-Ray.

    $1442.58.

Is it supposed to bring you back to cart page after you confirm last step? I see my order on 'order status', but yea. I'm just wondering why it took me back to the price cart page after I clicked 'confirm' to order my dv4t.

I was ready to purchase the dv2700t until this dv4t on the HP site. It's a tough choice between them. I built one dv4t out with the LED screen and the price came out to $1464 with my company discount ($150). I'm thinking of the 2.4GHz processor for less power consumption. I don't really need Blu-ray yet. I should be able to find a coupon for the dv2700t and get that laptop for around $1K (without LED screen). Which one should I get: latest model or the older one?

HP just had $500 off coupon for older models 2 weeks ago. If you want to get older models, maybe you should try and wait another week or two. I guess it depends. If you want good spect at lower price, you should go with the older model.

As for the newer models (dv4-7), I got to see dv5z at Best Buy. I didn't expect much about design features, but I must say, it's very nice. I had a Toshiba (had few yrs ago), and now I have HP dv6xxx (my father's), Sony SZ (broken), and Sony FS740N (my mother's), Sony CR (my sister's)..

I would say this is very nice.. not as nice as SZ (of course, this machine was $2300) but I think it's nicer than CR model in comparison.

Definitely better than the older designs of HP. I mean, way better.

Well, newer model has newer technology in Montevina.. it doesn't add whole lot more, but I don't know.

Wow, I had my order declined by HP because I put my shipping address as billing address. Isn't it supposed to automatically decline if credit card information doesn't match the billing address?

I talked to the HP for 39 minutes on the phone and still have to do conference talk with my bank to get my order cancelled and wait 3 more days for my new orders to be shipped....

Has anybody received his or her dv4t yet?

Some dv5t and dv7t users got theirs, but it seems like no one has gotten a dv4t. Or... is it just because enthusiasm of dv4t users is less than that of dv5t or dv7t users although some got their dv4ts?

dv4t was released later than those 2, if im right, so i guess even with the first arrival it wont be any earlier than aug 1, seeing a lot of people claiming their build time around aug 2.

for now they are just keeping it down, wait until they got it...

I called them for another 25 minutes and finally got it out of the way. But I paid whole $15xx, only later to get NB3089 $72.54 discount once my order is shipped.

For those who purchased or are thinking about getting the dv4t, what made you choose it over the dv5t? What are the benefits of an LED screen?

Well... First of all, I wanted a laptop with a 14-inch screen because I'll carry it around. (I don't have a car!) However, I wanted performance at the same time, so I decided to go with HP dv4t although other companies have smaller laptops. Also, I don't play games. That means no GeForce 8600 GT.

Therefore, I decided to go with dv4t. :)

I don't know anything about LED, but I heard that a LCD screen with LED backlight consumes less power and lasts longer.

That must be painful! Anyway, I hope everything is okay with your order and your laptop! :)

^ I'm with you. For me, it was 512mb GeForce 9600 + 7200RPM HD + performance vs mobility + performance, but in the end, I thought 256mb 9200 is more than enough for me mainly because I don't play games a lot.

Well I'm glad everything's taken care of now. I hope I made best choice by going with dv4t. Everyone seems to go with dv5t and dv7t..

Edit: what I'm Dizzy, I forgot to say HI everyone :) , 'caus I'm new on this forum !

Personnally, I prefer the thinnest design of the dv4 than the dv5 or the dv7.

So, I have some questions about this laptop:
    - I heard about a "weight saver" (the possibility of removing the optical drive). Is it still valid?
    - Is the memory speed 667mhz or 800mhz? (Or DDR3, why not...but I don't think so).
    - Does it have the switching between dedicated/integrated graphics capability?

    Otherwise, I've ordered a dv4-1070ef with
    P8400
    HDD 320go 5400rpm
    3 gb ram
    BrightView infinity wide screen
    9200m GS
    Blu-Ray ROM

    For 809€.. so about 1260$. I think it's a good deal! :D
    ship date est: August 8th

thanks for your future answers, and sorry for my bad english (I'm from France ^^)

I believe a weight saver will be part of primary dv4t accessories like a 6-cell battery. That means it will be given to all dv4t users. However, I can't say that for sure because it seems like no one, at least in this forum, has received a dv4t. The RAM for dv4t is DDR2 800MHz. What do you mean by "switching between dedicated/integrated graphics capability"? You can have one of the graphics cards but not both. If you choose the integrated graphics, you can save more power. And, of course, it's less expensive! I'm not sure, but NVIDIA said they would provide a driver later that enables the dedicated graphics to turn on and off, depending on the computer's graphics usage.

That's a good deal! Good luck! :) I'm waiting for my dv4t to arrive!

Intel announced with it's new platform (Centrino 2) a "switchable graphic" function. That mean that we could switch between the integrated, low-power GMA X4500 graphics and a dedicated graphic card, to save the battery life.
Any way, that's what I'd understand.

So I would like to know if this function is able on the laptop.(any way, the dv4 included the centrino 2 plateform, so it should be able...). Just want to be sure of that :)

Thanks for answering. Make us aware when it will arrive! :)

Well, I think Intel talked about its integrated graphics card, not other companies' graphics cards.

I don't think that function is availabe for dv4t now. I hope NDIVIA to release a new driver for that soon.. :)

5% coupon code is lasting really long despite it says 'limited time.' I wonder if HP will wait for another sale till coming Sunday.

If I could get another $100 discount, I'd feel like the deal's worth it.

Today, I've been pondering betw dv5t's 9600 vs dv4t's mobility + blu-ray even though I already placed order of dv4t... haha.

Not that I'm a heavy gamer, but I'm definitely going to buy Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 once it comes out.. I hope it runs smooth on 9200GS.

Well... I heard that you can get a refund for the difference between the price you paid and the current price if you call HP after receiving your laptop.

Also, I know that Blizzard is pretty good at making their games playable in a broad range of systems. I also want to play Diablo 3 on my dv4t when it comes out, so I searched the Internet yesterday. Although Blizzard is not telling much about system requirements because they are still developing it, Blizzard said that if people can play World of Warcraft, they will be able to play Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3. But, because it might be not correct, search for it to make sure.

I remember reading somewhere that Starcraft 2 is based off of Warcraft 3 engine. Is 9200GS good enough to run those games at high setting?

Well... I don't know because I don't play any game any more. I played Diablo 2 about 5 years ago, but I quit. I'm not interested in World of Warcraft, but Wikipedia says that the system requirements are "600 MHz processor, 256 MB of RAM, 32 MB 3D video card, DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card (Windows)"

If those are the requirements, I'm pretty sure that the 9200M GS is good enough to play those games. BUT, I cannot guarantee you.

Noob here, just ordered my dv4t.

For me it was between the HP Pavilion dv4t vs HP Pavilio tx2500z vs Dell XPS M1330.

Loved the touch and rotating screen on the the tx2500z but the 'grainy' quality and screen size turned me away as I still want to enjoy DVD's on it.

The Dell XPS M1330 is a great system, but Dell fails when it comes to style/looks....but the slot-load DVD was a plus

So I ended up going with the dv4t as its just a wee bit heavier than the tx2500z, and a step down from my old 15.4-inch laptop but almost 2 lbs lighter

Stuck with the Free 2GB RAM upgrade, really wanted 3GB...i'll probably upgrade it @ a later date

    Here's my build...

HP Pavilion Entertainment dv4t customizable Notebook PC

    * Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
    * Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26 GHz)

    * FREE Upgrade to 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    * 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS
    * HP Imprint Finish (Mesh) + Microphone + Webcam
    * 802.11b/g WLAN and Bluetooth
    * None
    * No High speed 56K modem port
    * FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    * LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    * No TV Tuner w/remote control
