ok so does anyone have any info on the heat issue? and then anyone have a comment on the brightview infinity display other than it sux? I really dont care about reflection, i just wanna know if the resolution is tolerable.

yeah i have the hp digital expresscard tuner right now but i also have a mogo x54 mouse so the integrated tuner would be nice for me to have. anybody who has a dv4t should be able to look inside the bay and see if there are battery contacts inside. i had an old pentium 2 think pad that was donated to my brothers boy scout troop that i setup for them and it had this same type of removable drive setup and it had an option for a battery.
i found the entire drive+enclosure and also just the enclosure on the partsurfer site but it cannot be ordered online yet but maybe it could be on the phone -
but i just dont wanna leave w/o it!!!! -
Ill try and snap you some non-dissected photo's tomorrow on the way to tampa. I like but im not a fan of HP build quality, i dont think i'd ever actually buy one they all seem flimsy to me. But the laptop itself is of good quality the screen is one of the best ive seen (CCFL). Im actually wishing it was mine. (Cousins from South America came by for a 2 week whirlwind shopping spree)
DVS Its warm, but its cooler than my 17 inch dell by a mile. I changed out the Thermal paste and its running 6c cooler... As for the screen, the 1280 brightview is a fine screen... Infinity doesnt change the screen to my understanding it just changes the mouting. -
I had a look at the dv4 at the local shops today. Beautiful LED back lit screen.
Not too keen on the shiny silver. I was a bit disappointed with the build, a bit flexy. But is it too much to expect t43 rivaling strength? -
It's really a waiting game! I know my estimated shipping date is still 3 days away, but it seems like those who ordered the dv5t are getting earlier than they expected. But, I think those few people who received the dv4t got theirs on time. -
Hey, guys!
My dv4t has been shipped! Its estimated build up date was August 7.
Now, it is expected to arrive on August 7! -
-
Hawkshark, thanks for the reply, i was beginning to think my post were either invisble or I had some foreign language patch installed on my keys...anyway, have you used the hp for any graphic processing yet? If so, do you know how capable this laptop is for games? Thats not why i got the dv4t, i got if for CAD and cuz its mobile, i just wanna know what it can handle. Btw, when you say its warm, like, say its on your lap, is it uncomfortable to let it rest there when it gets warm, or is the temp just kinda there? Thx!
-
yeah i called the case manager line to check on mine and they still say the build date is august 20 but keep in mind the computer was only ordered last week. i'm still hopeful that it will ship early. this is our 4th hp laptop in 4 years and i'm sick of it. my parents are discussing selling the dv4t on ebay as soon as we get it and buying a dell
-
I think FedEx is pretty fast! I got the tracking number from HP today morning, and my dv4t has already left Alaska!
I hope they just ship it to the Sea-Tac Airport without moving it from state to state.

I think HP has a supply problem or some kind of problem that is delaying the production of both the dv4t and dv7t. If you order a dv5t, you'll get earlier.
Maybe, they expanded the production line of the dv5t and reduce the production lines of the dv4t and dv7t because the dv5t is much more popular than the other two. I don't know....
But, I think yours will be shipped earlier than the estimated date. -
I am on the lookout for a new notebook - can someone please tell me why HP places the touchpads so far to the right that it interferes with typing? They obviously recognize the issue as they places a touchpad lock button; but I see they put up new computers such as this and I just dont get it. Please advise!
-
Looks like HP offers best performance to price notebook wise. I was waiting for x200 to release.. its price starts at $1434.00.
-
Although I haven't had any HP notebook for the last four years, from what I see in the pictures of HP laptops, I think almost every laptop except 17-inch ones has its touchpad in the middle. Even thouse 17-inch ones have their touchpads slightly on the left side of the palmrest area. -
I could be mistaken, but did the price for dv4t just rose? I thought it was $789 (base configuration) APP. It's now $839.
-
It did rise. I think HP changed the $150 instant rebate to the $100 instant rebate. -
Wow..... FedEx is super fast. It took two days for me and three days for FedEx (including one day in China, which is one day ahead of the U.S.).
Acutally, it is less than two days because I found out that HP shipped my dv4t after lunch yesterday. Anyway, mine is at a local FedEx facility!
I should get it today! -
-
Mine is set to arrive on the 7th as well. It shipped on the 4th. So much for 2nd day shipping
HP had estimated that it would ship on the 5th.
I have a really good camera and flash, so I will post pics for people. -
my parents are the ones talking about selling it. i'm willing to give them a chance on it but we have had nothing but problems with our previous 3 hp notebooks. we are on our 4th one in 4 years now. they have all been repaired 3 times then replaced all within the warranty process from the hp case managers.
we actually purchased a ze2380wm (black friday several years back from walmart) then moved to a dv2000 (amd based) which was replaced after the first repair because i suspect it was lost but it was delayed about 3 times and nobody seemed to know where it was or when i would get it. we were then given a massive upgrade to our now old and busted dv2500t which was worth about $2000 in hp's online store when it was built. now that has been "repaired" 3 times and is now being replaced with the dv4t. -
I got my dv4t!!!!
I'm busy setting things to try. I need to make recovery disks and re-install Vista. I'll post pictures soon! -
That's cool!
Waiting for your opinion about the build quality of the laptop and..... the laptop in generaland of course some pics!!
Are there so many useless software so you decided to re-install Vista? -
Good luck! -
I think there are so many useless software programs right now.
I have to re-install Vista.
I think the build quality is pretty good. As many people who got their dv5ts and dv7ts said, the whole laptop is very shiny when there's any light!
The LED screen is very bright. I can't explain much about the dv4t right now because I just got it, but I'll post more about it soon! -
hey i'm new here. i ordered the dv4t last week and mine's scheduled to be shipped on the 11th.
i was wondering if anyone was thinking of installing xp on their machine when it comes in?
i emailed hp earlier about whether they offered hp or not, and all they said was that they didn't recommend it because if i put xp on it, it would make the software part of the warranty null and that if anything happened to it and i needed repairs, i would have to install vista back on it before sending it to them.. but i don't like vista much (haven't used it much though..) and a lot of the programs on my old dell inspiron are for xp, and i may not be able to find them for vista.
i figured i would try out vista for a little bit, while slowly transferring my files and programs over to there (my current laptop is more than 3 years old and slowly dying i think). -
which state are u at? did u choose the 5-7days shipping or the faster ones when u ordered it??
im thinking about a clean install too after i get it, but that's gonna take a loooong time to get it done... -
I'm guesing he is in Indiana. It looks as if everyting comming from Alaska hits Indiana first for whatever reason.
Mine went from Alaska to Indiana, passing over my head.
I live in Oregon. Just two more days.... -
Yay... You guys can welcome the next member of the DV4t family. I just ordered one and currently has a build date scheduled for the 21st of August, I know kind of late, but its okay!

Here is a question. I purchased this ram from Newegg:
OCZ Technology ------4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model OCZ2M8004GK
Can anyone tell me for sure that it will work with the system I got above? Also, if anyone else is replacing RAM in their dv4t, please take and post pictures so I can kinda get an idea exactly how its done. -
for the info of installation, here's website that may help, or just simply google it....looks really easy tho! http://www.computermemoryupgrade.net/installing-laptop-memory.html -
-
well if i were you i'd forget about the infinity display thing n go with a better processor, which i did....but anyway, it will come out as a good fit.
doesnt it feel relieved after placing the order? ive been wandering around for 3 months trying to get my perfect new lappy n at the end i pulled it off for dv4t...good luck to us!! -
btw, did you guys see the unbox pictures of dv5t in their owner's posts? makes me want my dv4t in my hands right that sec....
-
Thanks for the link 7miles.
By the way, the OCZ RAM that I got has a $25.00 rebate with it. Its like $57. after the rebate. I thought that was a good price for 4GB 800, so I jumped on it. -
thanks for the detail
-
Any comments? -
My laptop is 2 hours north of me in Portland right now! I'm supposed to recieve it by 10:30 tomorrow morning.

-
Oh, sorry. 7miles. I was too busy.
Anyway, Clayton got it! Congratulations!
However, I have a problem. If you read my post, can you check your temperatures? My HHD temperature is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
51 degrees Celsius for an HHD? It can certainly damage my hard drive! -
I really love almost everything about my dv4t except one or two things.
First one.... It is the palmrest arera! I have an old Presario 2100 laptop.
It has a Hitachi hard drive, but it runs at about 40~45 degrees Celsius even if I run my computer for hours.
I don't know mine is a defect or not, but it is certainly just more than "warm".
I turned on my laptop about 10~20 minutes ago... Its HHD temperature was 35 degrees at the beginning, and it is already 43 degrees. too quick increase..
I am not sure it is HP's design issue, Vista's issue, or Hitachi's issue.
It looks like the HHD temperature is now stable at 43 degrees while I'm typing this, but it might get hotter.
Do you have the same problem, Clayton?
Second one, the fan.... It looks like it is constantly spinning even if it is within a normal range and the "fan always on" feature in the BIOS has been turned off. Maybe, it is a problem of the BIOS. -
It's 54°C right now, and that's true that it's a little bit warm, but I don't think it's so anormal for a laptop. My laptop work well for 2 years!
Don't worry about it
And thanks a lot Clayton for the pictures! -
Clayton or PlanetEarth,
How much bloatware comes on this thing? Have you got around to cleaning it off? -
Well... the laptop might be okay... but the hard drive might not...
Many hard drive manufacturers say temperatures higher than 55 degrees Celsius can damage their hard drives. Of course, even if a hard drive runs at 60 degrees Celsius, it could be fine. But, high temperatures like that significantly increase a risk of hard drive failing. -
I especially hate Norton. There are many programs that you won't use forever. I just re-installed Vista. But, I'm having some heat issues that make me worry... -
well if it stays around 50 for HDD still fine, danger zone is around 60. i'l try undervolt if it heats up too bad...i have no idea with the thermal pastes thing....
