    Hi
I recently received my Hp dv4t. Its cool but has below mentioned problems.

    1) Wireless connectivity disappears after 1 min. I have to manually restart network connection. Any hints why it happens so?

    2) CPU fan always remains on. HP has by default set it to "always on" in BIOS. I know they had some issues earlier with heating so as work around they introduced this Hack. Is same issue with this laptop too?

    3) HDD is getting very hot. Much hotter compared to my dell studio laptop. Is this normal or shall I ask for some specific manufacturer harddisk in replacement?

    4) display is not fitting in screen. Display leaves 4cm space on bottom and right edge. Is there any way to manually adjust display like the one monitor or other laptop manufacturers provide? I have asked for replacement of whole laptop at present :)

    Thanks,
    Bulletguy

I can't help on #1, sorry. I bought a dv7t back in 8/08 and it had the fan set to always on. I was able to go into the BIOS and modify that. They may have locked it since.

Ditto for the dv7t. Way too freakin' hot for a regular 5400rpm hard drive. I'm convinced that HP's design is the culprit. The metallic surfaces conduct heat!!! The palm rest near the location of the hard drive would become uncomfortably hot during normal use!

That really stinks! SEND IT BACK! You can try to right click a blank area of the desktop, choose Personalize, then Display Settings...you may be able to tweak it from there.

But you shouldn't be dealing with any of this B.S. on a new laptop. So I reiterate- SEND IT BACK!

I only kept the aforementioned dv7t for four days before sending it back for a refund! I couldn't deal with the heat and fan noise. I also drove myself insane cleaning smudges and prints every few minutes!

    Thanks,

Did you replace your Dell Studio with the dv4t? Mind if I ask why? :D

Do you have a discrete graphics card or integrated?

I have intel graphics media accelerator MHD 4500.

I replaced my dell studio for its poor quality of build. It felt so cheap. Crap sound quality. Invisible touch buttons. so on and on........ endless list .....

I kinda figured that was the reason....trust me, I know FIRST HAND exactly what you're talking about and all that can go wrong with them! I gave up on mine in January and ordered a Latitude E6400 from the Outlet to replace it.

My Studio 15 has been back twice for warranty repairs and it's still not fixed...plus they managed to create some new problems while NOT fixing the original ones. I'm working with a Dell 'Customer Service Case Manager' now to get some sort of resolution. All I want it a functional laptop that I can sell on eBay the moment they send it back to me!!!

Thats Quiet reasonable and the only expectation from Dell. To give good functional laptop :D

I've lowered my expectations from Laptops. I now just need good functional laptop, which I can use it with ease. I have even used Dell business laptops (latitude) and believe me those were good.

Can we ask for seagate hard disk instead of Western digital what HP provide by default? Will they have option of honoring such request?

If the dv4t doesn't work out for you, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Latitude E6400! Don't let your Studio experience scare you away. The Latitude E-series and Studio 15/17 are about as similar as Wynonna Judd is to Ashley Judd! Same family, but WORLDS APART!
