It is not available as of this posting.
However, a part number has been assigned; all of the models listed in the title use the same 12 cell battery.

Please reference the above number when calling HP to aviod any ignorance.

how come hp doesn't extend the bottom part of the battery to the whole base-length of the laptop like Dell does. because of this the notebook will not sit flat when pressure is put towards the other side of the computer. will the 12 cell battery for these series be any different?
-
Just some general info about the available batteries.

This item is available to order now thru HP - Just talk with someone on the phone and then they will get someone else to call you back on it.
They quoted me the price of $284 for the 12 cell!!!
Is that normal? -
No. That is not normal.
I don't think the 12-cell battery is available right now.
If it is released, it should be about $140~150 because other 12-cell batteries are about that. -
My case manager placed a CSO for this 12 cell. Estimated delivery date is in 2 days. He said they are in stock at the repair centers, so he's having it sent outa there instead of their parts warehouse. I'll let you know if it actualy shows up as there still is no fedex tracking number after a few days.

I wouldn't pay $300 for a laptop battery. Just wait for them to hit the part's site, they should be around $150 to $200.
-
That may be a while. I'm still waiting for my CSO replacement and they just pushed a new delivery date of the end of the month.

allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
To offer a little perspective on the pricing issue-
The dv6700t (predecessor to dv5) is available with a 12-cell upgrade from the standard 6-cell for $49. Or you can get BOTH the standard 6-cell AND a 12-cell for only $129. The dv2700t (predecessor to dv4) offers the same options as the same prices.
The new dv7 17" models have an 8-cell battery standard. They offer the option of an additional/extra 8-cell for $139.
Based on this information, the 12-cell for the dv4 and dv5 should be no more than $150. The quote for $284 is insane, to say the least. For that, you could just buy a generator to tow around with you in case you needed extra juice!
Unlike several other major notebook manufacturers, HP has always priced their battery upgrades and additional batteries very fairly! Earlier this year, there was a fire in one of the major notebook manufacturing facilities that supplies HP, Dell, Toshiba and countless others. Dell responded by putting a 4-cell in most 14/15" Inspirons and charging as much as $99 for a 6-cell upgrade and 9-cell upgrade was $189! Even now, the upgrade to a 9-cell on any 15.4" (Inspiron, Studio or XPS) costs $169!
Dell isn't the only one whose prices spiked (but they were the worst I'm aware of), but HP's prices stayed flat. Obviously, there are people willing to pay that much, otherwise prices would have fallen to more normal levels. But HP impressed me by not using that event to increase battery prices by 300% or more!
With that said, they (HP) are shooting themselves in the foot by dragging their feet on this 12-cell option for the dv4/dv5! I've seen dozens of postings on this site by prospective buyers who liked the HP but needed additional battery life and went elsewhere! -
So any news? I've got a dv5z and i'm looking for a 12 cell battery at a decent price..
-
From a conversation I had last week even the HP Parts Dept (call center in Costa Rica) cannot order the 12-cell battery even after I escalated to the manager. They referrred me to "Battdepot", which I could not find the 12 cell part number 484172-001 on that site. Attempted to call their 800 number and got a busy signal. Will try again today and see if I can get a 12 cell from them!
Attempted to try and order from the HP Parts site to validate HP's Parts Dept claim of inability (partsurfer.hp.com) and also got the same response.
Does anyone find it rediculous that HP Parts Store no longer has the ability to order their own batteries for a laptop that was release less than 6 months ago, but allows customers to customize an dv5t with a 12 cell battery? The reason why I harp on this is because I could really use that 12 cell for overseas travel and long plane flights...
This more than a little important for me and my business so I will keep on top of this and inform the forums if no one beats me to itWhich I certainly hope happens.

No love from BattDepot; BatteryStore; Mundo Corp don't appear to carry the 12-cell battery for the dv5 series only the 6-cell. So unless something dramatically happens in the next couple of months I don't anticipate anyone carrying including HP Parts the 12-cell
My recommendations to all thinking about purchasing the dv5 series from HP: Purchase the 12 cell battery prior to checkout!!
Good hunting guyz/galz, I'll keep looking myself. -
i bought my 12 cell with my laptop, i haven't really needed to use it yet. i've always been near an outlet so far. well, i lie.. i did use it on the plane the other day on my way to L.A. i guess i used it for maybe an hour or so.. i'm sorry i forgot to check out how long it lasted, or rather how much juice was left.

Which country are you based in?
The 12-cell battery for the these series have also been assigned a part number here in Singapore, but stock would most probably arrive in November.
The part number is, of course, different. -
I haven't checked to see if anyone else posted this... I don't frequent this site much.

But the 12-cell is available. -
