Hi there,
I'm currently using an HP Pavilion dv5-1140 (the white/lime green special edition). It shipped with Vista Home Premium.
I've recently installed Windows 7 to have a quick look at 'what's next', planning on using HP's System Recovery partition (triggered by pressing F11 at startup) to reimage later.
I've been trying to trigger the System Recovery tool at startup (with F11), but it's no longer working properly - the computer 'thinks' for a second and then starts booting into Windows 7.
I'm afraid after using tens of Pavilions in the past two years (I'm a journo), I've got into the lazy habit of using this recovery partition to reimage, not burnt DVDs.![]()
Is there anyway I can get the computer to load the HP Recovery tool now? I'm not looking to recover data - just reimage with Vista HP.
Cheers,
Tom

Here, try this. Go to start, right click on computer, click manage. Then in the window that pops up, double click storage, then disc management. Then right click on your recovery partition and click mark partition as active. Before you do this, be sure to save ALL AND ANY of your important files or documents you may have. Then try restarting. Normally, it should boot straight into the recovery partition. Warning: this may leave you with a computer not being able to boot into an operating system, so beware and use this as a last choice if you're scared. However, it's worked for my old hp pavilion dv2xxx and my dell studio 15. Should've just made a partition and dual booted. Easier.

Mangos - your solution worked perfectly. You're a real lifesaver!
Thanks so much.

Yes, this worked perfectly for me as well! I have a HP Pavilion DV5-1235DX Entertainment PC Laptop and had the same problem. I had installed Windows 7's evaluation build, and it worked for quite some time, but driver incompatibilities made me revert to Vista. Maybe I'll upgrade when a more stable version comes out.
Thanks once again! -
Thanks Brian, this worked perfectly.
