    hello

i recently purchased an hp dv5 notebook. a few days ago, i was able to successfully downgrade it to XP but i am having some problems with the sound drivers. windows update was able to locate one for my IDT chip but seemed to be generic since it gave me the 'device cannot start' error code. i was able to uncover after hours of searching around various different hp IDT drivers with different driver versions. the latest one i was able to find that successfully worked on my notebook (although not digitally signed) was version 5.10.6087.22. this driver compared to the 5.10.6087.0 runs much better as far as sound quality and less distortion.

does anyone know if there is a newer version available to download? im sure a few newer versions of this driver will successfully allow the IDT sound chip to fully function without audio problems. anyone have an idea about this?

    thanks.

thanks for the reply. unfortunatly, neither of those 2 worked for my notebook. The exact device ID for my sound controller is only listed in the HP IDT driver package which ends in 30F2.

any other thoughts? seems to me like i will have to just wait and see till HP releases newer versions of the IDT drivers. :(

I tried reverting a dv4t to xp and ran into the exact same problem you did.

    HI

Im in the same shoe and im sure there are a lot of us.

So you are saying that this driver works for you 5.10.6087.22.?
Would you mind upload it somewhere?

By the way i managed to install Ubuntu on it and the audio works great.
Which proves that it can be done.
We just need someone to rewrite the linux driver in windows.

yes HP IDT driver 5.10.6087.22 worked for me. the 5.10.6087 drivers worked too but the .22 one worked better. the sound that came out of my speakers sounded much better. the 5.10.6087 drivers should work for your notebook (not the ones from windows update). try to uninstall any IDT driver you may have, make sure you have your HDMI drivers loaded, reboot and try the 22 drivers: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41693.exe

try a bios update. you seem to have many versions of bios released for your system model. afterwords, try the latest drivers from realtek.

as for the IDT audio drivers, if anyone has found a link to a newer version please let me know. im sure there are many in the same boat as i am.
