are they all the same from laptop to laptop, or are they coded specifically with the serials of the laptop? I made the backups but exchanged the laptop for the exact same one, and wondering if it's worth it to burn another set, or would they be exactly the same?

Try and see is the best I would suggest. The discs wont even go though the process of reinstallation if the serial/model numbers are different.

I tried a set of recovery disc that I burnt when I had a V3000z(CTO) and they didnt work with my current V3019us(retail model). Even though they had similar specifications.
