I am interested cleaning my hard drive and reinstalling XP in order to get rid of all my junk (old programs, bloatware, etc). I have a HP dv5000 with XP Pro SP2 and wondered if any sort of guide/advice is available on doing this with as little problems as possible. I have the XP installation CD, which says that it contains the software and drivers already installed. Is anyone familiar with doing this with the dv5000 and know of any problems/concerns I should be aware of.

just get nLite. it allows you to create your own xp disc, provided you have a valid xp key. it allows you to embed all the drivers xp key and features you want. google it.

Is nLite a reliable solution to a fresh install? I don't want to take any chances reinstalling my OS.

How do I work around the system restore partition on my hard drive if I want to do a fresh install of XP? Do I keep the partition and just work around it, or can I remove it and use the extra drive space? Is the system restore partition all that important?
