Hello wonderful notebook guru's... I've been frequenting this site for the past month trying to learn as much as I can about notebooks and the new technology which I am very behind on. I have never bought a computer for myself, and I have only owned one personal notebook (an old one from my dad's job - old ibm thinkpad, really crappy), which I used for the first three years of college.

So anyway, I want to treat myself a little bit and get the dv5t. However, I am not a gamer or anything hardcore like that. I do love playing around with video, pictures, websites, little bit of graphic design, etc, but I know I most likely don't need all the top of line equipment. Plus, I imagine small upgrades don't make that much of a difference.

Also, what is the difference between the wxga and the wsxga screens? As well as the difference between the brightview and brightview infinity screens?

Is it worth it to upgrade to 3gb ddr2 memory?

How much of a difference is there between the Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 and the 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS as well as the 512MB NVIDIA?

How about the HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner? That seems like a very hot topic? Is it worth it (for anyone who knows)? What would I need besides that to actually watch TV on my computer? Also, BLU-RAY - is it worth it or should I wait until it catches on a little more / will BLU-RAY replace DVD's and when?

Why do so many people change vista to xp?

Also, what typically is a good service plan to go with for HP? I've heard mixed reviews about their customer service...

I realize there's a whole laundry list of questions here, but please feel free to put your input on any of these topics questions. Your feedback is very much appreciated from a learning notebook wannabe!

Good choice, might as well get something you like

Probably should get the 256mb card, just because it is a substantial improvement.
WXGA has a lot lower resolution; 1280x800 vs WSXGA+ 1680x1080. Depends how you are going to use it, but if you work with spreadsheets, or want to watch movies, or view a lot at one time, I would get the larger one. The infinity screen basically is just an aesthetic addition; they put a sheet of glass over the screen to make it look cool. Not sure I'm a huge fan, will see what others say.

    Yes

Big between first two, less so between second two, unless you are doing serious gaming and video stuff.
TV thing is probably overpriced, so unless you really want it I wouldn't bother. And as for bluray, definitely don't get it integrated. It will replace DVDs, but not for a few more years at least, and then you will be able to get an external one for fairly cheap. Hell, for $400, you could just get a PS3.

Vista has a ton of issues. Not a big deal, I wouldn't worry about it.
