    Hi,

I have re-installed my dv5t and for some reason I have an "extra" removable disk, I can't find how to remove it. I can click on the "safely remove hardware" and it is removed but after restart it comes back.
    See attached image.

    Thx.

You said this is a fresh install but have you plugged in any USB drives since you reinstalled windows?

I assume this appears to be something you haven't seen before, but i will dare to ask. Isn't the card reader is it? Some have a fixed letter even with no media, some don't.

Yeah have you installed the latest JMicron card reader driver? (Assuming that is the card reader in your dv5t)

My card reader(JMicron) doesn't behave this way even when I don't have the driver installed. The drive letter will only show up once there is a card in the drive otherwise there is no drive letter assigned.

The reason I asked if a USB drive had been used is because sometimes the device driver doesn't quite get installed correctly by windows which will lead to windows showing something that isn't really there.

OP can you give us some more info?

    Hi,

The only USB device that is allways plugged-in is the mouse.
I did use an external hard drive, but not sure if the problem started afterwards or right after the fresh install.

What more info can help? I'll try to post a screenshot of my device manager later this evening when I'll be at home.
    Are there any specific drivers?

    Thx!

    Hi,

Just to update this issue (if someone will have it in the future), the JMicron driver did not help BUT it was the "Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader" that was missing. Now all is good :)

    Thx.
