I am looking to buy the dv5t for my wife as a X-mas gift and unlike me, she values form and function (form over function is probably a bit too strong). With me on the otherhand function is key (which is why I asked for a 17" Sager gaming laptop for X-mas :D ).

I have seen the Onyx version in stores and I think she will like the cool metallic look of the HPs (I know I do). I haven't seen the Bronze color though except on a few scant pictures on the web. I am thinking Bronze would look cool and the $20-$25 premium for this color isn't an issue. Can anyone attest to the appeal of a bronze dv5t. Other than the lid, is any other color different (e.g. keyboard) for a bronze unit vs. the onyx?

I must say, I really likes the HP dv6985se (special edition) laptop at BestBuy. Really cool copper color and silvery metallic keyboard. Too bad the current dv5t special edition is toned down (a white motif with green leaf-like design). I really like the metallic look. Is there a current dv5t offering that looks like the HP dv6985se?

Hi I just went over to the HP website. I think the bronze looks cool, but personally? I would prefer the Onyx. You'd do good to go down to Best Buy and take a look for yourself. Sometimes the pictures on the Web can be vastly different from what you see in person.

I will say that the bronze won't show fingerprints as much as the onyx black. On the other hand, Bronze is a color that you might not like in 3-years time, whereas black is classic and you're not going to get sick of.

I would get onyx color. The bronze color is kind of trendy. Bronze might look cool at first, but can you say that after a few years? Onyx is a safer color to pick imho.

i saw the bronze finishes and onyx/blue finishes (like on my dv7t) at bestbuy. while the bronze is nice, i dont know, to me, it doesn't seem as nice as the onyx - even if it's the same spec'd machine. LOL

i would go to a best buy or other electronics store and check out both of them.

oh another thing - when you are building a custom machine on the hp website and select bronze, the color is no where near as shiny or flashy as the pictures/renderings make it seem. that's what actually shocked me. when the bronze option came out, i was pissed cuz i would have chosen the bronze over the onyx. but after seeing it in the store, im happy i stuck with onyx ;-D

Thanks for the info. I thought the bronze would be glossy (like the special edition dv6885se) but it sounds like it isn't. I'll stick with black and save $20.
