What memory speed does the dv5t come with is it 667 or 800. And also I'm definitely thinking about just buying 4gb of memory from somewhere else to save some money. Where is a good place to by good laptop memory for HP??

the dv5t, probably comes with Pc5300 memory, since it is cheaper.
Buy the replacement memory from newegg, zipzoomfly or e-wiz.

I recommend looking at OCZ memory, cause quite about two weeks out of every month, they have a $30 mail in rebate on their memory. This can make upgrading to 4gb really inexpensive.

Alright thanks guys, I just ordered my HP Dv5t right now :) It came with 3gb DDR2 memory for free, but I figured the memory was probably 667MHz because its cheaper. I'll probaly purchase that G.Skill memory seems like it would definitely boost the speed of my systems memory.

I think it will come w/PC6400. You will have a major increase in RAM bandwidth over Santa Rosa even with PC5300 almost 1000MB/s. I think PC6400 2DIMM's is going to get about 5600MB/s. Here is a link to John's tests if you have not seen, link.

Is there a big difference between the G.Skill and OCZ Memory?

me, personally, i would not go with some brand i have never heard of.

i always get my memory from www.crucial.com . just go there, plug in your laptop make and model and look at the options they have for you.

right now, for the dv5t, they have a 4gb kit (2x2048) for $89.99

yes, it's more expensive than g skill and ocz, but you get piece of mind knowing that it's quality memory. to me, that's worth the $20-$30 extra.

fyi - crucial makes ram for HP, micron and tons of other companies.

    fwiw.
