I am considering a dv5t: P8400-P8600, 1GB, 160GB HD, discrete GPU.
Does the dv5t come with an OS restore CD (Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP-1) or is it on the partition of the HD? I did not find an option to buy a $10-$20 restore CD/DVD on this particular order.
Are there any known problems with the dv5t, like noisy fans, EMI interference from fans, overheating issues, etc...? I heard there was a geiger counter effect...
Is it worth it to buy the $200 Nvidia 9600 GPU? I don't intend to play Crysis on this laptop.
Thanks in advance!

I have (will be had) the 9600M card and I don't like the colours at all in the HP dv5. All the colours look like they have been overexposed.

There are no restore CDs unless you buy them from them. You can create them by way of their installed utilities(highly recommended first step). You just have to provide your own media.
The restore partition is also on the hdd, though its not readable without extra utilities
If you game often, go for the 9600 GPU. Heat might be an issue so its highly recommended to get a laptop cooler. Fans are some what noisy when under load.
Geiger counter effect is due to the quick launch buttons, I've not experienced personally because I hardly use them (always on mute). Some have gone as far as not installing the drivers so problem solved...
Its a great laptop value overall, may not fill all the niche markets but for the general public its fits well
