The Intel-inside dv5t is on the floor at my local BB (no, this was not the AMD-based dv5z which was right next to it). Didn't spend much time with it except to note the following:
1) New Infinity screen was a big disappointment. It really lacked contrast with poor black levels. My 3 year old dv4000 screen looks better.
2) Silver keyboard was as I expected...hard as hell to see even in bright light (never mind a dim room)
3) Touchpad looked like a frickin' pocket mirror. Are they kidding?
I'll be taking a pass on the new HP consumer laptops. Maybe the new business models (like the Elitebook) will be better.

Are you kidding? There is a big improvement from the DV6700T and DV5T. The biggest being the introduction of the Intel Centrino 2 line and the integration of the Nvidia 9600M GT Hybrid SLI. The new processors have a higher level 2 cache and a faster fsb. You'll feel a significant improvement if you were using both side by side. I have a DV9700T and my DV7T is coming this week. The 9600M GT Hybrid SLI is better than what people are claiming them to be. According to the Nvidia website, the 9600m GT is 120% better than its predecessor 8600M GT which is obviously better than the 8600M GS. I will take pictures of them side by side and create videos of the performance increase. The DV9700T/DV7T is only the bigger brother to the DV6700T/DV5T with only a difference in screen size so they resemble each other in almost every possible way.

I've recently owned a DV9500t w/8600 GS card, I just purchased the DV5Z at Bestbuy. I was a little skeptical at first about the new design, screen and keyboard, but let me tell you I like it 100% better then my DV9500t. I guess you really have to use it to experience the difference. The only down side is the finger prints on the media buttons and touch pad, but it doesn't bother me I just wipe them away with my finger.

My mistake. I was misinformed. However, the 9600m GT is still a gazillion times better than the 8600m GS.
