HP dv6 Battery problem.

Hi there,

I have a HP dv6-2155tx Laptop which is 2010 Model. I have been facing battery problem with it recently.

The laptop shuts down when it shows 20% or 30% of battery. This means the indicator is wrong ? after a month with this problem. The battery showed me with a red X mark that i have to replace battery.

I bought a brand new factory sealed battery pack and installed it and had it charged for 3 hours. Battery Status at 99%. It was fine for couple of days and again it started to show wrong status i guess. It shuts down the laptop at 10%.

Please don't tell me to check the power plan settings. Because i set to hibernate the PC only when it reach 3% So there is no possible reason to take control and put the pc to shutdown. And its a direct shutdown, that just turns off suddenly.


My laptop specs :

core i3 2.2Ghz
4GB
1GB nvidia 320m
500GB
15.6 TFT
6-cell battery.

deceptron - have you tried doing the battery diagnostics in support assistant? if so, what is the error number you get?

 

try battery recaliberation

 

in boot it says

Primary (internal) Battery (601) error.


and as per your battery diagonostics in support assistant it says:

Just replace your battery because it has detected a failure.

Hello, I'm not sure if this could help. This should help on reconfiguring the sensors to read the correct info from the battery. As I had a problem with my old dv4 laptop that it was reading the wrong battery info and this is what a rep told me when I chatted on HP.com. But Not sure if this will fix your problem. Might be worth a try.

Step 1:
1. Remove the adapter and the battery from the notebook.
2. Press and keep holding the power button for 2 minutes.
3. Connect the adapter and the battery.

Step 2: Download and install the updated BIOS

Step 3: Power management re-installation in windows 7 operating system:

1) Click on start and type device manager in search field.
2) Click on device manager in the list.
3) Click + next to system devices.
4) Right click on following controllers and select un install one by one. Uninstall only the options that are available in the notebook from the following options.
a) ACPI Fan
b) ACPI Fixed feature button
c) ACPI Thermal Zone
d) ACPI compliant system

Restart your notebook after uninstalling all above controllers from device manager. Operating system will install new drivers automatically on restarting notebook.

Step 4: Completely drain the battery and then again recharge fully before you use it.

You could also check to see if Windows is telling it to shut down too early. On Windows 7:

Open Control Panel
(In Category View) click System and Security
Click Change Battery Settings
Find the current power plan and click Change plan settings
click Change advanced power settings
go down to Batter and expand the category
expand Critical battery level; if it's at like 30%, change it to about 10%
expand Low battery action and Low battery level. Set the action to "Do nothing" and the level to 15-20%

 

WHere you able to fix the battery problem????

 

He probably did, by buying a new battery. That's pretty much the only solution.

 

Not yet, I'm saving some money after getting an Alienware m15x kinda broke atm. But will definitely try that solution when buying a new battery. Because it happens even if i use new battery.
