HP dv6 Broadcom wireless won't connect properly

Hi everyone,

I have a HP dv6-1133ea (in my sig). It has the broadcom wireless card. It is running windows 7 64 bit.

Just recently the wireless has started acting up. It can see my home network fine but just won't connect properly saying "no network connectivity" etc. I know that the network is fine as my partner's vaio (and incidentally my old Toshiba A30 that I am using to write this post) can connect fine.

I have tried re-installing the vista 64 driver from HP's website but that makes no difference. Turning the wireless on and off or restarting also doesn't change things. I have also tried re-adding the network key but that did nothing too.

Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas what to do?

Edit: W7 has always been a tad funny with wireless...

Does this only happen in Windows 7? Have you tried connecting in Vista or XP? It's possible the drivers are not yet fully compatible. (Hi Jess!)

I've not tried XP or Vista no, but I have had the laptop running on Windows 7 since I got it.... 4 months ago? Why should it stop working now?

Also I have tried uninstalling the wireless card and re-installing but no luck.

 

Yes, my feelings exactly. And is W7 on the other computers?

 

O ok then, so a driver issue is unlikely. Well I did some searching and here and google, and I couldn't find anyone else with the same issue. So aside from an obscure software issue, it's starting to sound like your wireless card might be bad, or going bad.

I'm doing great though, how are you? College, staying up all night with friends, you know.

 

I guess if I can't find a good reason for this I'll have to recover the laptop to Windows Vista and see if it works on there. That's so rubbish though, why suddenly now if it works for 4 months? I haven't changed anything!

Yes it is the only laptop on Windows 7, Alex's Vaio is on Vista and my Satellite A30 is on XP.

Glad College is going well Amy, it sounds fun! I loved College. I'm doing pretty good myself although we are both tucked up in bed with nasty sore throats. Grr!

 

Ahh no that sucks, no one likes being sick. At least you two can cuddle up.

Umm so yeah I know it's sudden, but sometimes that's how it goes, ya know? Did you notice the lappy getting hot? Overheating is a common reason.

No not hot at all, it certainly shouldn't be getting hot, all it really does is run W7 which it can do with its eyes closed and its hands tied behind its back.

Oh well, thanks for your help, hopefully I'll work it out!

 

I found the problem, it was my joke of a router. I initially dismissed it because other machines could connect, but rebooting it cured the problem.

 

Good to hear, I was about to post to reboot the router in your troubleshooting as well.

Anytime I'm working on someones wifi, I'll reboot both, no matter what.
