Hi. I have HP pavilion Dv6 i7 2670qm model with intel HD 3000 and amd 6770m graphics cards. Yesterday I installed updates for HD 3000 from Intel site after uninstalling previous drivers. After installing updated drivers I got message that the drivers are not supported by AMD catalyst and switchable graphics won't work so I uninstalled the updated drivers. Windows automatically reinstalled the previous drivers after reboot. But my windows Index rating for Intel graphics went down to 4.8 for aero and 6.2 for gaming from 5.9 to aero and 6.5 gaming. I want to know what wrong did I do? How can I regain my previous rating?

Please somebody help me. I am very tensed.

Intel reference drivers don't have support for Switchable and Hybrid graphics. You shouldn't have touched an Intel reference driver for the Intel HD and it shouldn't be updated. Your score dropped because the discrete GPU is currently unusable.

You should've only installed reference driver updates for the Radeon HD 6770M.
Never do this on the Intel HD, Intel doesn't make switchable supported drivers. Those are meant for computers with standalone Intel HD integrated graphics and can dwarf the dGP.

If you want to fix this,
-completely uninstall all those drivers from both device manager and control panel.
-Download HP's manufacturer modified AMD Catalyst driver, it contains the Intel HD driver that's modified for hybrid/switchable graphics.
-Go to add/remove programs, uninstall AMD Catalyst Install Manager BUT uncheck the AMD Display driver because that option's been modified to also take control of the Intel HD's switchable supported driver. You check that, you uninstall the switchable/hybrid driver too.
-Anyway, restart, install Catalyst, restart. The current Catalyst version is 12.10, it worked for my notebook.

Also, never disable the Intel HD on a notebook. Especially the ones with hybrid support. The dGP will render graphics, transfer your display signals to the Intel HD before it gets routed to your display. If you disabled the Intel HD, your screen will simply go black and you have to fix that by booting into safe mode. So do not do that.

dont worry about the wei score. really. if you refresh it it be different. i dont mean this like the other guys who say the wie scorng system is worth nothing. i say this because i own a hybrid too and when in hybrid mode the score can fluctuate. these scores are of coursed based on the intel not the amds. and the random score is depending on how much of the intels full power was usedduring the scoring index. if you ran amd 6770m and disabled the intel. you get a score of 6.9 on both aero and gaming graphics.

    I disagree with you.
    • A significant drop in WEI score of graphics capabilities is indicative of driver issues. If the system is properly updated, the old score should be retained and it should not increase either.
    • If play games or use applications that sense the GPU's activity, once a Intel reference driver is installed for the HD 3000, the discrete card (6770M) is rendered completely useless.
    • I will stress this again. Reference drivers from Intel's website for the Intel HD cannot be installed. It has no support for switchable graphics and hybrid graphics and will render your discrete card useless.
    • You'll also notice performance degradations because the dGP is unusable. The only source of hybrid/switchable modified drivers for Intel HD are from the OEM which in the OP's case is HP. You can only install reference drivers on the discrete 6770M GPU.
    • You CANNOT disable Intel HD graphics for a laptop with switchable/ hybrid graphics implementation and I'll show you why in the explaination below:

    How hybrid graphics work
I'm writing down how hybrid graphics works in text. This is the exact mechanics and why hybrid graphics is possible. You're landed with 2 scenarios an application can possibly choose:

    1. Use the Intel HD (integrated graphics)
    2. Use the Intel HD + 6770M

Why is this so and why isn't there a 6770M only method? That's because for laptops with Intel HD + a dGP, the application chooses whether to render graphics on the Intel HD or dGP.
If the application chooses the dGP, graphics rendered will ALSO then be transmitted to the Intel HD, and Intel HD will generate the display output on your monitor. With the above mechanics, it also explains why hybrid graphics is made possible.

For this fundamental reason, an Intel HD on a hybrid system cannot be disabled. You *will* get a complete black screen

I strongly discourage the OP from trying to disable the Intel HD, I've tried it on various systems itself (intel + nvidia/ Intel +AMD) and both give the same result due to hybrid graphics. If you disabled the Intel HD, you have to perform the following steps to fix your black screen:

    1. Power down your laptop
    2. hit the power button - immediately hit F8 to enter the advanced startup menu
    3. Power up into Safe Mode - Your system loads generic drivers and such, your black screen will stop
    4. Start->Right Click computer-> Device manager-> Display adapters -> Intel HD, right click and select enable-> Reboot

If you wanted to update your drivers, here it is - the correct methods:

    What you need:
    1. HP Modified Intel HD drivers in part of the AMD video driver package at: ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55092.exe
    2. Download Catalyst 12.10 64bit at www2.ati.com/DriverS/mobile/12-10_mobility_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql_net4.exe
    3. Download .Net Framework 4. .Net framework is a required software to run Catalyst Control Center. In Catalyst 12.10, AMD upped the requirements for .Net framework to version 4 instead of the previous version 3.5. Get the latest update for .Net framework via Windows update.
    4. If you have softwares/files that require backing up, back them up.

    To install:
    1. Go to your Control Panel->Uninstall a program
    2. Uninstall AMD Catalyst Install Manager
    3. While at the uninstall menu, select the first uninstall option that lets you select what to uninstall.
    4. Check to uninstall all features EXCEPT AMD Display Driver (Leave the Integrated graphic Intel HD drivers alone) I repeat do not touch it or things will screw up. Restart the laptop.
    5. Run the Catalyst software installer, select Install -> Custom -> Make sure you have a checkbox with a black frame around the component, "AMD Display Driver". If this is not present, hit cancel and repeat this step and make sure "AMD Display Driver" shows up. This is to ensure the installation file has detected your graphics hardware. If it does not show AMD display driver, the installer is not detecting your GPU.
    6. If step 3 succeeds, make sure all components are selected and hit next to finish the installation.
    7. (Only if it fails) Uninstall Catalyst and begin from step 1 again. This may take more than 1 attempt.

I repeat: Now why you can't touch the Intel HD

It uses a driver modified by HP or AMD for hybrid/switchable graphics support that enables the laptop to run a secondary dedicated graphic card. Installing a Intel HD driver from Intel's website would also mess up how switchable graphics and hyrbid graphics work because Intel HD drivers on Intel's side are only meant for PCs with standalone Intel HD graphics. It has NO switchable support.
