    /Now with working pics!/

    Hi all,

Had a quick look around the forums, only found similar threads for Acer/Asus/Dell laptops, if there is a HP one out there though I'm happy to just take the link.

Like most dv6 buyers, the left hinge/plastic case has become loose.
(My model is the Hp Pavilion dv6-3030tx)

    By this I mean:
    - Every time the laptop is opened, there's an audible, crack-like sound
    - The base of the laptop has come apart from the laptop covering that contains the keyboard at the top left corner (hinge) I can see -inside- my laptop
    - This gap is still visible when the laptop is closed, but more so when the the laptop is opened (thus the cracking sound i fear will eventually break the plastic casing)

    Pics (Edited to actually work!)

Have found disassembly manuals/blogs/videos, some for dv6-3xxx models, most purely for dv6000. Also, hinge replacement videos for the dv6000. Having a 3030tx, I don't have the separate plastic strip across the top of my keyboard which can be removed on its own.

Is there anything I should be aware of, or expect, if I were to take it apart?

Some people have mentioned loose or missing screws which sounds like an easy fix..

Basically looking for any help and advice as to how to get it back to normal

    Thanks in advance

    The cables are pretty fragile.
And it probably will so i recommend you swap it before it gets worse.

I have a DV9774, so its the same as a DV6000 series as far as the hinge. Not exactly the same as yours. I replaced my left broken hinge a year or two back. The heat from that corner must seize the hinge and then the aluminum broke. Some other people had catastrophic failure that destroyed surrounding plastic and lid.
I do have the plastic above the keyboard that came off with several screws from underneath, inside the battery bay. Then split the lid/screen to get the long piece of the hinge off inside there. It was easy. It sounds like you need to remove the entire top around the keyboard. Besides having screws it also snaps together and gently needs to be pried apart.

Thanks for the replies, fixed the link so that the pics could actually be seen as well

Sounds like I'll just have to adjust others videos for the disassembly of the dv6000 as I go along and just see what's wrong inside..

Hoping for something obvious like a loose screw!

Any other advice (or a dv6-3030tx disassembly guide) would be much appreciated

No more advice on this? Attempting to get this done on the weekend and fairly new to disassembly!
