Hi,
I bought a dv6-6b40sp which has a 6770M and an Intel graphic card.
There was supposed to be a software that manages these two gpu but there's not.
I tried installing it myself but I was unsuccessful...
First I tried this and the installation seemed to be just great but there I already searched C:\ and there were no drivers installed or Catalyst manager software...
then I tried amd website and the AMD Mobility Radeon Driver Verification Tool did not find any gpu on my laptop reporting the following error:
![]()
The text says something like:
"It is not possible to download AMD Catalyst mobility due to an hardware/software incompatibility on your computer.
There is no support to the version of your graphic adapter. Contact the manufacturer of your notebook to obtain a graphic driver update."
Any tips? How can I turn 6770M on?

AMD Catalyst 12.4 WHQL 64-bit download from Guru3D.com
I got this from a YouTube video for drivers for 6770m from a video posted 2 weeks ago.
Anyone can confirm if it's works ? -
I'm using those right now on 6770m. I wouldn't say that they are very stable, sometimes the driver stops responding (randomly).
-
12.3 better prebuss?
-
In terms of stability, yes. In terms of performance - nope, but the performance is just slightly better than the 12.3. Thinking of downgrading to 12.3 for myself soon.
-
is it this one?
AMD Catalyst 12.3 WHQL 64-bit download from Guru3D.com
what other drivers u use ? like the stock amd , intel? or DNA ? -
Yep. You can try to install leshcat's 12.3 drivers, those ones have newer Intel HD Graphics drivers.
If you are going to use the official 12.3 (as you posted the link), you will need to uninstall current GPU (ADM and Intel) drivers. After that, install drivers which are provided by HP and on top of them the official 12.3 driver.
Leshcat's drivers are more likely to be "standalone", it doesn't require to install HP drivers first. -
"install drivers which are provided by Hp" , u mean the ones from the hp site for amd and intel?

Yes, but just the "AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver", as in the description is written: for notebooks with switchable graphics, it includes Intel HD graphics drivers as well.
-
O didnt know that , thank you.
so from what u said , i think the steps are as follow, correct me if im wrong
1. install the amd driver from the hp site , which includes both amd and intel drivers
2. driver sweepers?? ( not sure about this one )
3. unpack the 12.3 WHQL , and install everything , i think theres like 4 different files within the package.
4. done??? -
No, the sequence must be as follows:
*Switch to fixed mode in BIOS, and select AMD GPU as default.*
1) Download all necessary drivers (from HP and AMD WHQL 12.3), driver sweeper from phyxion.net
2) Uninstall drivers completely using the guide, provided below.
3) Install HP drivers
4) Install AMD 12.3 WHQL drivers.
The hardest part is going to be uninstalling old drivers. I have made tutorial for myself, how to uninstall drivers completely:
-
if i just installed a clean window 7 and start a new , do i still need to follow the uninstall old drivers step? or go straight to step 3?
-
Yep, straight to step 3.
-
Still need to switch to fix mode in bios ?
-
I always use fixed mode, although it might work in dynamic mode as well.
-
always on fixed mode....hows the gpu temps tho, idle and gaming ? before i format my hp, i get up to 85C when playing 1080p diablo 3 beta , is that too high? or the 12.3 drivers will lower the temp?
-
I meant I always use fixed mode (AMD enabled) to install/uninstall drivers. For regular tasks, you can choose whichever mode you want. I don't use 12.3 drivers right now, although with 12.4 I get ~50 degrees Celsius on idle state, and max temp is 78 Celsius, that's quite good for me.
-
is that higher or lower temp than when using 12.3?
Im tryin to find a driver that gives the lowest temp over long periods of gaming, if drivers is even a temperature factor. -

yes, drivers affect gaming temperatures. try using Catalyst 12.1 or 12.2.
fyi, i am currently using SONY drivers (which are based on Catalyst 11.6 and released in September 2011) as they are the most stable of them all and allow for overvolting my GPU. i have tried newer SONY drivers and recent AMD ones, all of which caused crash-to-desktop in Battlefield 3 or botched Flash/WMP video playback issues. -
this one http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=359716 ??? -
darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
yes, but you need the mobility Catalyst 12.1 drivers for laptops ( directly from AMD). the Guru3D link you have is for the desktop Catalyst 12.2 drivers.
Catalyst Control Center (CCC) is a utility to manage and tweak the settings. -
It appears that all models of dv6 have this problem...
HP wasn't able to help thought.
My solution was to switch to fixed mode in the bios and update de drivers through HP website.
Now every time I plug in or out the AC adapter the pc asks if I want to switch gpus.
I wasn't able to install the drivers from AMD but I don't seem to need it.
Hope it helps you.
