Hiii
i have hp dv6000 with intel core duo and 950 intel graphics card media accelerator, and every time i start the computer, as soon as it boots up, the screen is split into 4 identical screens, and it stays the same way even after logging in. it is getting extremely annoying as everything is too small to read!! i am running vista home premium. here's a screen shot of what it looks like!

ok sorry. i attached it. Please help.

Woah, quick google search for "vista split screen" showed nothing. It must be a feature in Vista that was accidently kicked on...hmm
-
I've seen a similar thing as part of the microsoft mouse software (which shows you what windows you currently have open) but nothing like this! What do your display properties say (specifically the 'settings' tab)?

What's the notebook spec?
-
check the display properties and see what the resolution is
-
I digged around everywhere in vista and couldn't find anything at all. disp resolution is 1280x800, and if i lower it, it effects each of the 4 sections. i aslo tried installing the latest drivers for 950 card, but nothing. Ummm I tried safe mode and same thing.
I think the problem maybe in hardware itself? because as soon as i turn on the comp, it goes to 4 sections without anything from windows loaded.
it's 1.8ghz core duo, 2gb ram, 160gb hdd, vista home premium, intel 950 graphics accelerator.
any ideas?
thanks -
do you have recovery discs?
-
No, i got it from costco, and they just gave me drivers cd. no vista recovery cd. there's a partition for recovery though
-
and i am also over their new 3 months policy
-
So if you go into BIOS it would show 4 screens? Wow, seems like it is hardware.
-
Yeah, if you go into the bios, and it shows 4 screens like that, it's definitely a hardware issue. Your graphics card is messed up.
Although you maybe over the Costco return policy, you should still be under warranty, so don't hesitate to call for service! -
Call the manufacturer, they should have atleast a one year warranty on defective parts
-
Have you resolved this issue?
I bought the same computer six months ago and it started doing the same thing. Any ideas? -
Wasn't this a option in XP. Someplace on the taskbar you could click and see all the user displays. But if only one user was logged in. Then that display would show up as a quad????
Does anyone with XP know what the option is? -
from the HP quick recovery, just run the standard windows recovery. that should set any windows related things to default without harming your personal files.
-
Wow, I just posted in the Sony Vaio section this exact problem yesterday. Found this thread while scouring google hits, I been leaning towards the fact it is a graphics card issue now causing this problem. Your screen shot example looks identical to mine.
-
I have dv6000 with the 4 screen issue as well. I think its a hardware issue. can the card be removed from the laptop?
-
No, the gfx card cannot be removed.
I've had it a couple times on my dv9000, every time a hard boot solved it. Seems like mine is not so "dead" yet.If your warranty is out you can try the ghetto reflow method, aka "bake it". If you want anymore info on that just reply and i'll tell you everything i know.

Hello there,
We are experiencing the exact same problem as detailed in this thread. And the guilty laptop is also an HP Pavillion DV6000. I tried almost everything detailed in this entire thread, but nothing worked. This is when I decided to look for help online.
Please provide help about this issue. I am about to try flashing the System Bios, but I don't know if this will work. Under other circumstances - with a desktop for example - I would remove the BIOS battery hoping this would perform some kind of hard reset, but this is not an option at the moment.
I await your reply.

No one has yet answered the question of whether this happens all the time (during POST, in the BIOS, during Windows loading) or only after Windows loads.
If you don't want to reformat, do some basic troubleshooting. Boot in safe mode and delete the video driver. Install different drivers.
It's hard to help when everyone's just screaming "OMG, this is happening to me too! Is my video card fried?".
