Whenever i use my laptop on battery power, as I use it, the screen occasionally flickers, and then eventually blacks out. The computer is still running and it looks like the screen is still "on" but there's no content there (one time I was watching a movie and i kept on hearing the audio).

This ONLY happens on battery power and not when plugged in.

My first instinct was video driver issue, so I updated it to the latest one... still having the same problem.

FYI it is an HP Pavilion dv6000 series, 2gb of RAM, Core 2 Duo, integrated graphics card (945gm).

Anyone else have this issue? Anyone know what the problem is? Maybe my battery is screwey since it doesnt happen on AC power? Can anyone help?

i have the exact same problem. i have an acer travelmate 6291 with core2, 2gb of ram and an intel 945gm integrated graphics card. i've taken out the memory and reinstalled it but the same problem. the screen flickers then goes blank. monitor is still on as the reflection of the monitor backlight is highly visible. this also only happens on battery power and never when plugged in. sometimes the screen would go blank but instead of black it would turn white, and a few times even orange. i use to run vista on my machine and thought it was the culprit. i did a clean install of xp pro and still the same problems. searched everywhere in google for an answer but no luck. maybe someone here knows whats going on? any kind of help will be appreciated. thanks in advance.

it pretty much points to the battery as the culprit. Any of you tried a different battery pack?

Try calling HP and see if they might replace it. They arent actually liable for batterys but who knows..

Could be bad battery or the connection between the battery and motherboard, but you seem to have isolated more towards a bad battery.

    Hi,

    The same problem here!
It flickers on battery and normal operation when power plug is in.

Does anyone nows whats going on?

Is this only with Windows XP or does VISTA users have the same issues?

I have notice when I used the latest video driver from Intel that some times my screen goesblack and mostley stays black, after downgrading the driver to 6.14.10.4785 from 02/27/2007 filename: win2k_xp14323.exe this problem was gone till now this issue.

Please post here if you have the same problem or have a saloution for it.

    Best regards from Belgium.
    Vaako

    Hello,
i have the same problem too,
i didnt find a solution to it yet, still lokking!

i figured a simple thing to do to overcome the problem, everytime my screen goes black i do press the FN + F5 sleep button, and re wake the laptop, every thing works great until it happens again...

I'm having the same issue, but while plugged in. This happened once yesterday then twice within a few minutes today. Only thing I seem to be able to do is manually shut down the computer then restart it and hope it won't do it again.

My wife has this same problem with hers but I haven't got a chance to work on it yet. However, from internet research it seems it's probably either:

    1) A pinched power cable in the left hinge
    2) Part of the backlight assembly located in the center of the bottom part of the screen.

I will let you know if I find out anything, I just need to find some time to mess with it.
