My son had a hp zv6000 with the ATI Mobil Radeon Express 200 Series video card. He's had it 11 months. Suddenly two days ago while watching a dvd, the color on the screen gets very funky (neon type colors) and washed out and the text is wobbly and barely readable. After restarting, there is no improvement. We can find no changes in the display settings. We updated the drivers to the video card, but there is no change. I'm not very knowledgable about computers. Does this indicate the video card is fried?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Scarlet

I don't know the answer to your question but I would suggest going to www.notebookanalysis.com. This is a forum deveoted exclusively to the HP zv6000 and its twin the Compaq R4000. I have an HP zv6000 and have not had this problem though I have only had it for 6 months. Anyway, check the forum out as I think they could probably be of great help. Good luck!

Thanks for the link. It's a great link. It gave me a possible cause which I will check in the morning. Thanks again.

Are there vertical multicolored stripes? Does the display work but then suddenly fade into stripes and stop responding? Is only 1 or 2/3 of the screen not working? Try an external VGA monitor. If it works, your GPU is good. If the LCD does one of the things above, its probably a loose display cable. It's not hard to fix if you want to actually take your laptop apart. Send a picture, cuz it will probably help us find out your problem.
