I think this is a common problem with dv6000 owners, but as i was reading i can see that the average battery life is 2-3 hours.

I cant even get 2 hours with bluetooth off + having it on power saver !

Any suggestions to increase the battery life and get a decent 2 or 3 hours out of my laptop ?

    Thanks

try run the hp battery check. Go to start, help and support, and then troubleshooting tools, battery check. If it fails you get a new on (provided you are in warranty) If running XP you'll have to download the tool off the hp website, just search hp battery check.

Batteries do over time degrade though, no matter which brand you use. Think the HP website shows a graph of time vs battery life.

1.5 to 2 is about all you can expect from the standard battery.

Undervolting your processor, probably best way to increase battery life

Which DV6000 do you have? I know that the AMD based ones do not get the same battery life as an Intel one. I haven't timed mine but I am sure its just barely over an hour.

I've got the intel one, I timed it, with the brightness down, i got 1 hour and 20 minutes. The thing is..the laptop is only a few months old and has always been like this. I also have another HP laptop.. an older one not from the new series.. which can last atleast 2 hours easily ! Thats why am curious about this one.

It also depends what you are doing on the computer. If you are typing in Word, it is going to last a lot longer than if you are doing something that is very processor intensive like a game, graphics program, watching a video from the DVD drive, using the wireless card, etc.

I also have HP laptop based on Sempron Mobile - got over 2 hours. Brightness to the lowest level and works fine.

The only thing that is being used is the wireless card, but i dont think it will use the battery so much that it wont last 2 hours, i mean everyone uses their laptops for internet browsing...

I think maybe HP/compaq just doesn't have great battery life. I have the honking 12 cell and unplugged, just surfing the net, I get maybe 3-4 hrs MAX

does anyone know how to check your battery in vista? My battery has recently died on my 6000z and will only display 0%, and wont hold a charge. I've only had it a year too. ;(

Vista "should" give you longer life due to the better battery management functions. Of course if you are pushing the laptop to it's limits XP is less demanding resource wise and "should" last a little longer.

My HP dv6601ax gets around 1hour 30mins under intense gaming, and up to 3 hours surfing and general usage.

To check your battery go to start>help and support>Troubleshooting Tools>Battery Check. If you are still under warranty you should be good.

    I have DV6000t, bought in Oct 2006.
My battery dies as soon as I unplug it.
The fan always keeps running and the base heats pretty quickly.

Do I need to replace the battery? Will it be any better?

Or is this the end ?

My dv6700t lasts about 2 hours, when im listening to music and browsing the net. Its a standard 6-cell. I would recommend ebay when replacing the battery, you can get an original battery for half the price of hp. Also don't buy an aftermarket or "compatible" battery, look for the auctions that say original or genuine. cation007, I would change the battery, it should fix you problem

That sucks. I have the bigger brother DV9700T and I get a minimum of 3 hours on power saver. In fact, if I tweaked it enough I think it could be capable of 4 hours.

    well A.J.
i think it doesn't due to the blue teeth, it may be the issue of the "memory effect", if ur battery has not been used for 2 more year yet. u can 100% discharge the hp pavilion dv6000 battery and over charge it for 4-5 hours, then the memery effect should disappear

Are you guys talking about nickel-metal hydride cell, abbreviated NiMH? Because all this talk about battery conditioning/discharging is more about the older NiMH batteries and not the newer Li-on (Lithium) that most computers/phones use today. Li-on should not have the memory effect that NiMH did. But I have read that its better to keep up the charge on Li-on then to allow it to fully discharge and to charge it up before storing. As far as fully charging and allowing it to discharge for conditioning that is bogus as far as Li-on batteries go. I can see maybe doing that when the battery is new, for a few cycles. But after that Li-on should not be affected by recharging behaviours. Also, Li-on batteries tend to loose life over time so that battery may have limited life. In fact, in my experience, sometimes the original batteries will perform less then third party compatible ones. I bought a third party battery (12 cell) that lasts over 4/5 hours depending on what I am doing for 80 bucks total (its important to look at the Mah of the replacement.. for the 12 cell try to get a 8800 Mah). I strongly suggest getting the 12 cell since it raises up the back and allows for better cooling. It really sounds like your batteries loosing life. I believe that not all batteries are equal and some will just not perform all that well. I had a hi capacity 6 cell from HP that never performed all that well. But then again, original batteries never do in my experience.

Also, is your model a DV6000? If so, that battery is probably over 2 years old being they have not made that model in a long time. Right click on my computer and select properties to determine which model you have. At any rate, most Li-on batteries will loose considerable battery life after two years. The model listed on the display is a generic number. Even my DV6500t says DV6000 on the display since its the same chassis.

The fault is here is an ID:ten-T problem. Very old, very common.

2-3 hours? Yeah, in hibernate or sleep maybe, or with your screen almost dark and nothing running.

"Average" translated - "The Extreme BS limits of the lab test results of battery performance, skewed and published to make it look like you can get a lot more than you really can in order to boost sales."

Does NO ONE anymore bother to READ or check their HP SUPPORT PAGES?? HP gives every one of you this information, but no one bothers to read the stuff they send to you.
As a Professional Tech certified on HP systems for many years, I don't have any problem helping people - but when I see such a high percentage of users ignoring the documentation that comes with your system, then I get a little more than just frustrated.

If you go to the Support Page for your individual System Configuration, click on Solve a Problem, then Power/Batteries, you will see a list of battery solutions, including the following Support Bulletin from HP, which is on virtually all of their notebook Support Pages:

"How to Improve the Performance of the Battery"

For those of you who don't know how to access the Support information for your systems, get your Product # from the label under your notebook and enter it into the field at this link: HP SUPPORT & DRIVERS

Once you enter the number, click on the double arrows to the right. It will take you to the exact system configuration for your model series.

If you look at the Setup/Install section, it will give you
For those wishing to stay ahead of the curve, you can sign yourself up on the HP Alerts RSS or Email notification system:

Computers are not TV's or Refrigerators, Microwaves or Stereos. They are complex electronic systems requiring responsibility and knowledge to maintain. You don't just put gas and oil in a car or truck and never do anything else (well, some do) and as such you shouldn't treat your system that way either.

Sorry to be a bit abrupt, but it gets old seeing the same fault every day.

In the control panel you can change the battery setup from high power to saver etc, on high power I think 3 hours is standard

I have a high capacity HP 6 cell battery on my DV6000 that hasn't been used much over the past couple of years (I usually use my 12-cell). Recently my 6-cell only makes it to 70% and then suddenly jumps to 6% and I get a warning message regarding low power and have to plug in or shut down. Is this battery defective or is there something I can do to fix it? My 12-cell works fine.

P.S. I did the HP battery check on my troublesome 6 cell and it said it was "good"
