    Hi,

I recently aquired damage to my laptop screen, an HP dv6000 with a 14.1 inch (wide) screen. I am looking to purchase a new one, however the 'specs' or details of the screen (ex. Video connector info, backlight type) are way out of my realm of understanding.

Before I purchase a new screen, I would like to make sure it is completely compatible with my laptop. How am I able to determine this?

Also, what is the esthetic/quality difference between Glossy and Matte type screens?

Any help/additional info. is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Do you have the receipt, warranty or anything that could help without purchasing a new one? I had some black dots on my screen and got it replaced for free recently.

It is under warranty, however it didn't cover 'physical damage'... and there's a good sized crack along the upper left corner of the screen so it's not replaceable under the warranty

Personally i would go for a matte screen if you can find one. Glossy screens are prettier in that they have that mirror finish and they say that glossy means better picture, but it also means that it is unusable in the sunlight.

There is going to be a part number on either the display or the video connector. You should try using Google or eBay to look for that part number, and you'll find the exact same screen your notebook was using. Laptop makers like to make displays incompatible between models, so sticking with what was made for it is the best bet.

Glossy is also much harder on your eyes in general. I had to get an antiglare film frmo photodon.com for my dv4z.

    dv6000's are 15.4" widescreens?

Search eBay for dv6000 LCD or some such thing to find compatible screens. This is less troublesome than it used to be. LG Phillips panels are well regarded.

I've been calling local places for info. on screens too and they have only found info. about 15.4" too for this model? But they said it was 14.1 when I bought it and i measured it again to make sure and it is 14.1...?

Well there are a ton of dv6000 variants. Look at the bottom of your notebook, there you have a label which says which model it is exactly.
