My mom's HP dv6000 will not connect to any wireless networks. I thought the network adapter might be fried but last night for no reason after weeks or months of not working the light for the wireless switch was on and turned blue. Wifi card worked flawlessly until I left it off the charger for a few hours and it turned off. Upon rebooting its again broken. The wireless switch indicator led stays red in both the on and off poisition. HP customer support said it was a known problem and needed to be sent in but I want to avoid that if possible. Anyone know of a fix for this issue?

No real fix you can do from your side. You really do have to send it in.

It is a known and old issue, its the system board itself thats the problem not the wifi card.

Thanks. Yes it has the nvidia chipset I dont have a heatgun but is there a video or a newb howto on this fix? I don't think her lappy is still under warranty because she didn't know anything about the warranty when I asked her. Judging by age I think its 2 yrs old give or take a few months. Maybe since its a known issue they would be willing to fix it even if the warranty is up. I dont think she wants to pay alot to fix it since we have a verizon aircard which never goes over its plan even though she now uses all the time.

Well check with HP to see if it is covered under that warranty program MGS2392 posted, since they had a recall for a known defect they may just will fix it for free. As far as the reflow the solder with a heat gun or oven method you gotta understand that its not a 100% fix, and there are some risks associated with it, so sending it to HP for repair would be the best option. Or just live with it and use the verizon card for internet access.

    Good Luck,

NOTE: This service enhancement program does not affect your current standard limited warranty. If you are experiencing issues or concerns other than those listed above, your current standard limited warranty applies. In the event your notebook has been serviced for one of the above issues and you have been charged for service please contact HP to determine if you are eligible for cost re-imbursement.

Meaning if you are listed in type / serial, and have the issue, they will fix it reguardless of your original warranty status.

If you do send it in though, take pics of the unit outside and screen/kb, to avoid hassles later if it is returned to you with more marks on it thatn when it left your hands. :)
