this sounds familiar, some else just posted a similar problem; not sure if it was this forum though. The solution was to unplug the laptop and take out the battery then hold the power button down for 10 seconds. This will drain the static electricity that builds up over time. This is usually one of the firsts things I do when I have a problem and normal troubleshooting doesn't help.

although the first thing I think of when I read your post is graphics card failure, the beeps could be some sort of motherboard error code. Something similar just happened to my desktop except it was the motherboard that went, I could tell it was the motherboard because there were no beeps.

damn it has happen to me and few others I already know!... I am getting a replacement model however it is still a 6000z model. I hope this won't happen again. If it does... next time I am going to request a total model change. Good I got a longer warrenty on this **** or else I end up paying more for repairing.

I have exactly the same problem with my dv6000. Just bought it about 1 year and two months ago but I have went to the hp service centre twice already. First time, I was still under warranty so they just charged me for the express service. 2 months later, now, They told me ( one long-2 short beep: VGA problem) it will cost me whooping 400 USD to replace the motherboard/parts. Anyway, does anyone know how can i DIY the notebook/ fix the motherboard/VGA ? By the way, I was using 7200Go. Please help. Thank you. :)

Yeah been there, done that. Exact same problem with the geforce 7200. Mine was still in warranty so i was able to send it in and get a replacement.

Unforunately your only choice if your out of warranty is go to 3rd party laptop repairer stores and get different quotes which around $400USD is about right.

    this thread might help: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=173616

I was still able to turn mine on at random times and was able to recover and back up my files.

HP has a class action lawsuit against them for making so many bad notebooks with the beeeep beep beep issue.

Mine has already gone in 3 times for warranty work. Problem is the motherboard / video card.

Warranty by hp is extended to two years for this issue. For complete details of the problem and the lawsuit and the two year warranty see below: And don't forget to tell everyone to NEVER buy an HP laptop.

HP Pavilion DV Series - FAULT: 1 long 2 Short beep code, No Display.

    (SOLUTION)

This is a known fault with the Graphics Chip situated on the Motherboard.
Note: Even if your laptop is out of warranty (THIS FAULT IS KNOWN THEREFORE YOUR WARRANTY IS EXTENDED 2 YEARS!)

    Here’s what you do:
    1. Dial HP: 01344360000 (NOT 0870) as this is a higher call charge rate.
    2. Select (option 3) explain to operator, you are aware this is a known fault with the Pavilion product range and they are legally bided by law to repair this know fault.
    3. You must provide them your details, i.e. Name, Telephone Number, S/N (Serial No) & P/N (product number) both are located on a silver label underneath notebook.
    4. Backup your data if you don’t know how to do this go to your nearest shop i.e. PC World, Curries etc, they have necessary equipment (i.e. USB Caddy devices) which they can sell also, either way this will cost you.
    5. Finally (KEEP) your charger & battery, courier will be arranged either (AM) 9.00-12.00 or (PM) 1.00-4.00 * Repair should take 7-10 working days *
I hope this information helps all of you affected.

Remember if it ain't broke, don't fixi it

Update to the latest BIOS and it will support up to 4gb

The documentation for it will say 2gb maximum but the BIOS made later on enabled 4GB support
