HP uses some of just about everything. You never know what you're going to get. My current notebook came with a Seagate HD and Nanya memory.

I called HP about this a few weeks ago, they told me they manufacture their own RAM and hard drives and put them into the computers.

That's really interesting... I guess it depends on what the best deal on the components is that they can get.

When did you buy your computer? It's possible HP recertifies RAM and brands it as their own. It's possible they ran out of HP-made RAM, and had to subcontract out to other manufacturers. It's more likely than you might think it is.

No Fren, it is more likely that they BS'd you.

HP has always used someone elses stuff. All they ever do is put stuff together. They don't make the motherboards, screens, DVD drives, HD drives, webcams, mics, speakers, nor keyboards. The whole machine is 3rd party.

I have a TOSH harddrive. I'll check the mem later.

yup thats right Fren most if not all laptop manufacturers dont make their own stuff. all their parts come from other manufacturers, it is essentially where most manufacturers of everything from motherboards to hard drives make the bulk of their money. For example DFI which now makes some of the most overclockable desktop motherboards for AMD systems has/had an OEM division that sell to HP, Dell and others.

Fren download a program like Lavalys Everest and it will tell you what your harddrives are and perhaps even your motherboard and RAM. You will find theyre not HP. Even the external optical drives they sell arent HP, theyre rebranded just as they used Philips drives in the past.

btw CPU-Z says my RAM manufacturer is Netlist, are they an actual brand/company? Never heard of em....

CPU-Z says some funny stuff about my memory! I must have some alien tech in my notebook. Have a look at the manufacturer and the week it was made! It's the same for the 2nd slot as well! LOL
