Hello everyone,
I'm new to this forum ... I've always been an "observer" but today I decided to join.
Anyways, my laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6000t (built in Dec 2006). I have upgraded to the latest BIOS, F.29, and I have heard that with this latest BIOS, it should be able to support up to 4GB of RAM, 3GB with a 32-bit Win XP, which I have. Today I upgraded my RAM from 1.5GB to 2.5GB (1x2GB, 1x512MB), but my OS only recognizes 1.5GB of RAM.
I contacted HP support, and they told me to interchange the memory modules. I did that, and it didn't change anything. I contacted them again, and they told me that the max supported is 1.75GB, and anything beyond that "HP is not responsible for."
Also, I'd like to upgrade my hard drive from 160GB to 320GB, but HP tech support told me that my build only supports up to 160GB. Can it support 320GB?
I'm going to college this fall, and my school recommends that I have 3GB of memory and 250GB HD installed. My laptop is only 2.5 years old, which is why I'm reluctant to replace it. Tell me, is 3GB RAM/320GB HD possible on HP's dv6000t, or will I need to replace my computer?

I have successfully done this on my dv6345us laptop. If your machine is the Intel processor version, you have an older BIOS in the F.29. The current version is F.2D

I went right to the HP site and downloaded the current version there. Make sure you insert the modules correctly or it won't recognize all the RAM.
Hope this helps,

OK ... problem: I don't have a dv6345us. Mine is a CTO ... dv6000t (build version dv6100) ... for that laptop they list F.29 as the current one.

What are the risks of me downloading the F.2D when HP doesn't list it for my product? -
GUYS!!!
I fixed the problem. The memory sticks I was using were incompatible with each other. The one I tried to install on my own was clocked at 667 MHz ... but the ones that HP put in my computer (the 1x 512) was not clocked at 667 MHz but at 555 MHz (HP you guys totally sold it to me as 667 MHz!!! ) ... which is probably why the machine could not recognize the 2GB chip (wierd). So just now I put a 2GB chip clocked at 555 MHz, and the machine finally recognizes 2.5GB of memory. I'm happy ... and confused at the same time.
Oh well. Everything's going well, so I'm happy.
And since my computer isn't broken yet, I'm not replacing it. The dv6000t is an awesome machine. -
It's strange how your memory is being clocked at 555 MHz.
Anyway, the dv6000 generation overall was pretty awesome...it was a long-lasting one.
FYI, the dv6345us is a pre-configured variant of the dv6000t. Everything up to the dv6500 is mostly the same -- however, the dv6500 and onward is regarded as a major refresh for the generation. -
Oh ... another question:
Will my dv6000t be compatible with this Western Digital 320GB hard drive? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136197
I'm concerned that the dv6000t will not be compatible with the 3Gb/s spec. Can anyone clarify this for me? Will it work with the dv6000t?
Thanks alot, and long live the dv6000! -
I believe the hard drive will fit and work, but I don't think it will be running at the SATA 3 Gb/s specification. It probably will run at 1.5 Gb/s instead.
