Looking for a budget 15.4" matte WXGA laptop for my father, and it's pretty much come down to one of these. My question is:

Do these models currently all use the same exact matte screen? I read through the FAQ in this forum regarding HP/Compaq differences, and would assume yes, but I just want to be sure. I recall a comment somewhere (don't remember exactly where) that seemed to suggest that the dv6000z had a better screen than the dv6000t, as far as HPs are concerned. But perhaps the person was misinformed.

The other question I actually had was regarding the IMPRINT laptop coating options. Does this glossy coating extend to the frame surrounding the matte screen, kind of like what you see on some LCD HDTVs (particularly Samsungs)?

    Thanks,

    Ron

There are no difference between the screens of the same model line. So, a dv6000z or dv6000t are likely going to have the same type of screen. What would vary is the manufacturer of the screen since HP sources these parts from various manufacturers. There is no control over what manf. screen goes into your system. This is true whether you choose a HP/Compaq/Dell laptop.

The imprint coating is only visible on the back of the lid and on the palm rest area and the plastic urrounding the keyboard. If you select the imprint finish the screen surrounding gets a glossy black finish without it, you just get a matte charcoal type finish.

A glossy frame surrounding the matte screen is a no-no, so looks like I'm going to go with the standard coating option. Kinda sucks because HP/Compaq decided not to let users upgrade the video card option (and the extra features- memcard reader, addtional usb and firewire port) if they choose the standard coating option. Thanks for the input.
