Just recieved my dv6000t, So far I am unimpressed with all the lame stuff preloaded, and the boot up time is horrendous. So I have been reading over the threads and reinstallation guides for reformatting. My question is, The D: Partition, Hp Recovery, Is this partition solely for the purpose of the recovery discs? When reformating, do I just delete this partition all together? And How would I go around to backing up the whole partition to my desktop on my network, because It wont allow me to explore to see the actual files. Thanks guys in advance.

If you have the recovery discs they can re-install the recovery partition because they restore it to its original state. Something like True Image can make an image file of the partition if you like.

How slow is your boot time? Do you really think removing the recovery partition will speed that up? My computer (DV6000t) cold boots to the Logon screen in 25 seconds, and from the logon screen to full boot, including loading antivirus, and about 7 utilities and programs, in another 25 or so seconds. That is pretty quick, in my opinion! I have manually removed a lot of the "bloatware", but have not reformatted and re-loaded. I'm not really sure that any significant increases in performance, or significant decreases in boot times will be realized. You will note that I am using a 7200 RPM drive, which does help quite a lot!

True image or Partion Magic -
If you are also going to wipe out the C drive to make one large partition, I suggest you back up the swsetup directory. It contains the setup files for Direct & Quick play.

good point- but boot time is slow in my opinion, So I think a clean install will improve windows boot up time as well as a clean registry.

i just bought the same laptop, and thinking similar things, i charged into wiping the OS (and deleting the recovery partition) and now have found out from a very helpful person in another forum that you are NOT supposed to do that.
will a reinstall of an OS only work if it comes directly from HP?
HP dv6000t- So I decided to reformat...D: Partition?
