I used the WinXP MCE install CD that came with my old dv8000z and the \windows\system32\wpa.dbl file (Windows activation info) from the factory dv9000z install.

Someone posted this link to how to make an install CD from a recovery disc:

If you're not bothered by the constant cycling on of the fan, then I'd say not to worry. The TX2's are built for the heat.

Whether this is normal is the question for me. All 3 of us run at the same temp, but that could just be a coincidence, not a standard. Unless more 6Z owners chime in with their operating temps, the issue remains unresolved, at least for me.

if tx2's are built for the heat, i'm fine with it.

now i want to get a 12 cell battery but i'm wondering if i would really use it that much cuz my laptop doesn't really leave my room much.

If you don't intend to go mobile with it or do so infrequently, I'd say wait till you either truly need it or the price comes down from the $140 range. And stay away from deals on eBay unless they can verify to your satisfaction the age/use of the battery.

If the nb is serving primarily as your desktop replacement, then I suggest removing the battery to mitigate the wear and tear on it. If you do go sans battery, try to pick up a UPS to smooth out the voltage drops and surges and to protect your work if the power goes out.

My dv6119us does same thing everyone else's is doing. Ive seen it hit 62C and I stuck in a 7200rpm drive which I am starting to think wasnt the best idea.. the hd is 43c at idle.. not sure whats safe? Palm rests get hot but to me are only overally hot when plugged into wallpower and charging the battery.. dont really notice it to much on battery power which doesnt last for very long with the 6 cell.

i guess this is common, lets just not worry about it until something goes wrong. So far i'm happy with my dv6113us.

I've left it on over night while it was plugged into AC to do some encoding and it was fine. Maybe because it's winter right now and it's a little cooler but i'll see how this notebook behaves in the summer.

as of right now, i'm very satisfied with this pc's performance, but i really want to get a 12 cell battery now since my 6 cell is rapidly deteriorating.

Performance is fine... I just got a 12cell through the for sale section of this forum.. the only thing I dont like is my hands being heated while im on it. I took mine apart and applied some Artic Silver 5 which helped the temps around 4-5C.. fan doesnt kick on as much and it seems to kewl down faster when it does. Id love this laptop if it wasnt for the heat coming through on my hands.

i think you would have a much higher heat due to the fact that you upgraded ur HDD to a 100 gb 7200rpm. If it's a 80gb 5400rpm HDD, then i don't think the arctic silver is necessary.

I'm thinking about upgrading my HDD and RAM memory in the future so I'll keep this in mind.

My HD heat temps are about the same as everyone else's that have the 5400rpm drives.

Has anyone tried lifting the laptop, or installing "cool feet"?
Does this seem to lower the temperature on the left palm rest?

It's not something that bothers me that much, just sometimes having a sweaty left palm isn't always enjoyable.

I sit my laptop on my lap ontop of a flat rectangular box (the one with all the cables that came in the laptop box) so I don't feel the heat underneath it, but I'm glad to read that the Tx2 are made for heat. My last laptop had a HUGE overheating problem and I'm a little paranoid now!

i just checked my temperatures using notebook hardware control:

    my temps are at idle:

    cpu temp: 57
    hd: 51

this is on a glass surface. should i be considered with these numbers? this laptop unit feels alot warmer then my previous dv2000

can you put it on a different surface, like a wood surface for example? i dont think glass dissipates heat as well but yeah those temps are too much though in any case

the heating is bad across the board, right now with usage my temps are:

    cpu: 60
    hd: 57

i will be contacting HP shortly and contacing them for a new laptop. this is unacceptable

My CPU temperature is running at 86 degrees celcius and does so quite often. The only softwares I'm running now are Firefox and MSN messenger.

Is that normal or should I return my laptop?

I want you to consider this hyperlink.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...dlc=en&lc=en&docname=c01087277#c01087277_bios

HP has identified a hardware issue with certain HP Pavilion dv2000/dv6000/dv9000 and Compaq Presario V3000/V6000 series notebook PCs.. Mine has been acting up for the past months and heats up very quickly. Especially when playing dvds.. installing programs from the disk drive. it suddently shuts itself off! u have to wait about 10mins and turn it back on for it to boot up.

One thing more, my wireless suddenly stoped working. good thing there was the HP Update that led me to the said info.

i qualified for the category that says.

"The notebook does not detect wireless networks and the wireless adapter is not detected in the Device Manager."

they had to replace the whole system board.

the wireless card and all other hardware was working perfectly fine. as per the engineer that diagnosed my dv6113us. its the system board they had to replace.

after the board was replaced, my system temp is now very normal. even if i leave it on for the next 48hrs. it still stays at normal temp. + my wifi now works!

    hope this can help.
