When I boot up the bios clock of HP dv6220tx laptop is stopped at the last time I turned it off. I already checked the RTC battery and thats ok, so do I have to swap out entire motherboard or is their a simpler cheaper way to get clock working again?
Cheers

Tried updating the BIOS?
-
The HP online bios chk says up to date.
-
Did you just check or replace the battery?
-
Checked RTC battery and replaced it to no effect. I guess the whole motherboard has to be changed next or is the a a way to just rip out the clock bit and stick one in that works?
-
No it cannot be swapped out.
Try taking out the battery pack and AC power. Hold the button for 30 seconds to clear the CMOS and then try starting up again -
First off, I want to thank you for your replies.. one question, you say hold the button? Which button? The main power on/off switch?
Thanks for your help.. -
The power button. remove the charger and the battery and hold the power button down for 30 seconds it does a hard reset and some times solves your issue.

To clear the cmos please read the manual. You need to have the RTC battery disconnected as well as power and main battery.
Maybe the RTC clock (IIRC 32.768kHz) isn't working, if it's external should be able to replace it easily at a repair shop, if it's in the chip then you'd need a repair shop that does SMD rework to replace the chip. This is of course if that's the problem and you have no warranty.
Does the time update automatically in the BIOS setup or is it frozen? -
Go to your HP drivers page and reflash to an older version or a more updated one.

Thanks for all of your help. Amazingly after 3 months of frozen BIOS clock time (frozen at time of last power down) I simply took out the batteries (RTC and main) and power supply, waited 10 minutes and then reconnected all and turned it all on again and the BIOS clock started ticking again and had reset itself to the yr 2006 and CMOS settings cleared. I had done the same about six weeks ago but it made no difference and the CMOS didn't seem to clear so I thought it was hardware fault. This time it did. So now everything is working. I haven't needed to try the power switch 30 seconds clear method yet.
I will copy paste all of your helpful tips and re read this thread should the problem ever recur.
Thanks you all.
