So i have my laptop which has Vista home premium with the SP1 RC1 installed on it. It starts up fine and works for a while just fine then becomes unresponsive and sluggish for apparently no reason.

The time this takes to happen can vary and no one task seems to set it off it seems to be fairly random. I've virus scanned my machine and it's not showing anything and task manager isn't showing anything particulary untoward. I can't pinpoint exactly when this started happening either I think it may be the SP1 RC1 but I don't see why this would be cause by that.

Does anyone have any good ideas for tracking down what the problem could be? I sometimes can't even start my task manager when it becomes sluggish and I have to power it off from the power button and reboot it. It's becoming a bit of a pain!

thanks in advance for the help
    Alan

This is a very broad issue to troubleshoot; anything is possible. For example, after installing SP1, I can no longer connect to WPA secured networks. My first feeling is that it may be causing problems with one of your drivers.

:) I know it's a broad issue and it's driving me nuts. If it is a driver it's giong to be almost impossible to pinpoint it easily as it's a random action that is triggering it as far as I can see.

Check your task manager when its slowing down. See how much CPU Load and which process is eating up the memory

If it was fine before you installed the service pack then its obviously the sp

Do you have the System Restore service enabled? You can try restoring everything to before you installed the SP.
