Hi... I searched the forums and came across people with similar problems.
Basically, I left my laptop running when I went for supper. When I got back home about 2.5 hours later, I found my computer in sleep mode. I glided my fingers across the touchpad - see the lights go on and I hear the fan start spinning. I left to do something quickly but when I got back into my room the laptop was off. I tried turning it back on several times but each time, the laptop would shut off almost immediately.
Heres the stuff I tried:
1) took battery out and tried booting it with just the adapter on. No luck.
2) used my friend's battery. No luck.
3) Took the RAM out and reseated them. Took the harddrive out and reseated it. Nothing. Though technically after doing this, the laptop powers for about a minute with a blank screen. It shuts down by itself and then turns on again in a continuous cycle.
4) I tried a solution I found here, where I held the powerbutton on for half a minute without the battery and ac adapter. And then replace both the battery and ac adapter. Still nothing.
I'm guessing its the motherboard. Is it possible I have a virus or something? Worse part is that the warranty just recently expired and I already had a host of problems ie. the wireless card going dead on me etc. To be honest, I'm not all that impressed with HP right now. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are there any beep codes when you start the notebook? More importantly what are the specs of your notebook?

Yes, I took it back to Best Buy and the technician mentioned this as well. They've sent it back to HP. Hopefully I can get it back in 2 weeks.
