Hi, im new on these forums, but anyways, here's my issue.

I have a 4 month old HP pavillion dv6642 which has been running perfectly since the first day.. and im very happy with it. However, since about 2 or 3 days, the fan on the back of the computer is constantly running at quite a high speed even when the computer is doing nothing. Before, it used to run on "low/basic" speed when doing regular activities and then move on to greater speeds when watching videos or running more cpu-hungry softwares. However, now from the moment I turn it on, the speedy fan is always on.

Ive tried rebooting, but it did not work. What should i do?

Have you changed (inadvertantly) the Power Settings in Control Panel? Default is "Balanced", and works as you described it should with low speed until needed to cool things down. "Performance" setting ramps up the fan all day even though your not doing anything.
