Any idea what or when HP will update the dv6700??
I currently have a 4 year old HP zt3000 and would like to purchase a new laptop this year. I have had good luck with the HP and wouldnt mind buying a new dv6700 but I would like to see a new video card (9500M gs or HD3650) and a 1440 x 900 15.4" screen!
Anyone think either of these will happen??

Nah, I think the current models are it until the new Intel & AMD platforms are released in June. We may see more of the dv x800 units appearing on the CTO site, but they are no different in hardware than the present offerings.

You might wanna look at a gaming notebook instead of an entertainment notebook. I dont see HP dropping a 8 or 9xxx series cards any time soon. Neither a higher res screen
You might aswell wait for montevina and puma platforms to come out in june/july. I sure am

I want to stick with a 15" model and most of the gaming machines seem to be 17's
THe new platforms was what I meant. I am hoping that they will introduce the new platforms with some new options in the pavilion line!!!! -
Acccording to most new reports, Intel plans to release Montevina during Computex, taiwan (June 3 - 7). So, notebooks with these are probably most likely going to be on sale after that date. HP and others might make announcements but actually being on sale will take some time. Also, the prices wont be low. You will end up paying higher prices for lower end penryns combos while at this point of time, most manufacturers tend to offer discounts in order to get rid of current stock. if price isnt much of a concern then you couldwait for it. otherwise it might be a better choice budget wise to buy before the arrival of the latest and the greatest.

Miner, will Puma be released as well on that date?
-
That makes sense, and I am in no rush really. I will definitely wait until june-july to see what happens with the new platforms. In fact I may not purchase until the fall. My wife uses the laptop more than I do at this point and she doesnt seem to mind how old it is, but I want to upgrade it anyway!

Most likely AMD will release it at the same time during the Computex show.

Hi Miner,
I don't understand who is advising HP Sales Team ... but they must be IDIOTS ... becuase they are loosing Sales to Sony since they have taken away lot of their "Sales Incentives" such as Free Upgrades and so forth.
I myself was "Thinking" about HP ... but after seeing their website and CTO costs ... I said the heck with HP and went with "SONY".
What is your thought about HP's Dumb New Strategy.

They still have free upgrades on all of their CTO systems, the dv6700t currently has $100 instanat rebate, free upgrade to 2GB and 160GB HDD. For ~$1000 you can get a pretty good system depending on your uses you can get better options if necessary. Plus, if you qualify for APP(student) discount then you can get further ~6% off. So, I dont see how that is not a good deal. A similarly configured Vaio FZ costs ~$100 - 200 more than the dv6700t.

Hi miner,
Thanks for taking th etime to answer ...
The "Only" reason I was looking at HP was because my buddy told mem that they happen to have a good deal ... Last week they were offering 3GB, and 250GB HD Free Upgrade and cheaper cost on nVidia card ... and while i was soul searching if I should spring the $$$ and get it ... this week the whole darn thing is a differnt story ...
Well, also I read here about some coupons ... but there are no more rebates ...
Q: BTW, how do you qualify yourself for Student discount ... give them acopy of my Student ID or what ...
While I am complaining ... I might as well say I am not too crazy about their Touchpad ... it feels funny ... I went and checked an HP at local CC ...
Oh well ... I guess the old saying "You Snooze You Loose" applies to both me & HP.
Thanks again ... LOVE this Forum and the People trying to help each other and rookies like me.
