    Hi!
I just ordered the HP dv6700t. Can anybody share there experience and do you think it was a better deal then getting a dell ?
I am going to use it for web development and games etc.

Does Vista 32bit or Vista 64bit matter? I heard that there arent many drivers or aplications for 64bit.

The Pavilions certainly look better than the Dells ;)

64 bit has virtually no noticeable advantage except in a few specific edge cases which the average desktop/laptop user will almost never run into. (i.e. some computationally heavy applications)

I paid $909 for it. Do you think it was good price? Did you get a HP as well ? How much did you pay for it?

I think it's around the same price as a similarly spec'ed Dell would've been. After all, they are close competitors for budget notebooks.

Yes, but not when compared to the XPS. But then again, you would not by able to get a similarly spec'ed XPS for that price. :p

EDIT: Oh, and don't bother with 64-bit. Chances are you'll never need it. It's only if you're going to put in more than 3GB ram. Not worth the hassel of finding drivers and alternative applications otherwise.

its not really too much of a hassle these days going to 64bit. its improving more and more

if you buy this hp then 64bit is not a problem.

what kind of games can I play with the 256 card? I was thinking of Crysis, Halo etc I was thinking of upgrading the memory to 4gb.
But i was told that 32 bit will only use 3gb and not use the 4gb.

i doubt you can play crysis at decent settings, desktop gpus already ahve a hard time playing it. Halo you will be able to play

Id buy 4gb anyway for futureproofing and symetrical dual channel, ram is cheap these days.

I guess it's a matter of opinion, but the "wedge" shape doesn't appeal to me at all. Not to mention that I don't care for my laptop exploding.

Specs? Good chance you'll be getting a refurbished model for that price, for all the current coupons (post 40%) make the price over $999 for even the basic model. Even with the EPP discounts, it won't get that low after tax. I'm personally hoping for another XPS deal, but one with the 9 cell battery and a really low price.

I've been looking at XPS models on outlet (where the prices are actually around $900), and I'm starting to doubt purchasing from outlet. Theres an extremely high chance we won't see such a good deal again due to how many models they need to make a sold (there goes their current stock :p).

I was originally planning to buy a strong gaming laptop, but when I think about it, in the long run it'll probably die very soon. With a strong laptop video card, I'd probably game the laptop to death in a year or so (that's what desktops are for), so I'm leaning towards a DV6700t. I don't want to end up with a XPS with a grainy screen or some dead battery in need of replacement.

I Finally got my Hp dv6700t. Its really a cool laptop. and I just tested out the Crysis demo on fullscreen it play very well, without hardly any lag. I tried with 1024 x 768 approx.

The pictures quality in general is so crisp. I am very impressed with HP so far.

Quick quest , how do I create a Hp recovery CD? Also, do i first burn the label then burn the cd?

Go to your HP recovery manager/disc creator, it should let you create the discs from there on. I recommend using DVD+R's, you will need about 2-3

You can burn the either cd or label first, which every way you want

Where did you find a dv6700t with these specs for only $900? On the HP site I customized one with a 2.0 GHz and 120 GB HDD, but with 3GB HD and it came out to close to $1500, though that included the 2-year warranty with accident protection...

Speaking of which, anyone know if it's even worth it to bother with those plans? This is my first time buying/owning a laptop, I'm feeling kind of overwhelmed.

Go for a Dell Vostro, now XPS M1530 is also on sell so it is a good deal too.

Personally , I think the Pavillion 6700T is not a good model , cheap look (too flashy and glossy) and is weak because of its weak GPU choice, and also, you should know that there is no high res option for the Pavillion.

If you prefer a HP over a Dell , get a HP business 8510p or w.

I heard that hp only lets you create the HP recovery disc only once. Is that correct?

    Thanks

Actually , It ended up coming to $870 aprrox with the above spec. I used http://www.fatwallet.com to get additional 3% cash back.

I bought it when HP was having the 30% off promotion. They tend to have it once every month usually.

there is more serious risk getting horrible screen from HP than from Dell.

    XPS has a fantastic screen.

Well, Dell XPS and Vostro have much better build than that of the HP Pavillion, but HP business beats all hands down.

Get a HP buiness or Dell Vostro.

They look much sexier and more professional.
