Just today I encountered a problem turning on my dv6775us laptop (1 month old). The problem appeared to happen after a windows update but it might just be a coincidence. When I turn off the laptop I cannot turn it back on unless I remove the battery, external power, and hold down the power switch for 1 minute then reconnect the external power. I then can turn on the laptop with the power switch. If I turn off the laptop I must repeat all the above to turn it on again. If I leave the battery out all the above still applies with regards to removing external power and holding down the power switch 1 minute then reapplying external power to turn on the laptop.

Any / all suggestions for a quick fix would be appreciated.

Try using your media touchpad to turn your unit on... Press the quickplay button or the DVD button, those should turn your unit on, if not you may have to sent it in to service. However if it does turn on then goto the link below and see if this is your problem.

Nothing turns on the unit unless I disconnect all power (incl. batt) then re-connect. Sometimes I have to hold the power switch down for 1 min. with power disconnected. After re-connecting power, the power on switch, quickplay button or the DVD button will turn the laptop on. Could this possibly be a software problem that a reinstall to factory could cure. I hate to do a reinstall but I will if you think it might fix the problem.

    Thanks, Don

I contacted HP. While working through the problem with a service tech on the phone the laptop finally refused to turn on at all. They are sending me a box to ship the unit in for repair. I will post once more when HP returns the unit and report on the problem and repair.

    Thanks for trying to help.

    Problem Resolved:
    1. Received box from HP on 3/14.
    2. Sent Notebook to HP on 3/14 (Fri).
    3. HP received unit on 3/17.
    4. HP repaired unit and returned it to me today 3/18.

Talk about quick turnaround. I couldn't be happier with HP's service. The notebook is in perfect physical condition surviving repair and shipment.

The paperwork included with the return indicated that the System Board was either repaired or replaced. I wanted to know which so I contacted HP and was eventually transferred to an individual who looked up the Service Ticket (this actually was no easy task, I had to go through India first) :) I was told that the System Board was REPLACED as the original board had soldering problems. All is well now and I still can't believe how fast the turnaround was.
