Strange problem here, when only on battery hit the power button and the battery LED blinks three times. This same behavior happens when you hit quick play as well.

However when the AC-Adapter is plugged in the laptop starts up just fine and charges the battery. As soon as it starts you can pull the ac adapter out and it will run on battery ??!?!?! In windows it says the battery is charging, no bios options available about the battery in this particular BIOS. I updated the bios to the latest on the HP site hoping this would correct it but no luck. I also tried holding the power button down for 60 secs with battery and adapter removed. I also flipped the CMOS battery and cleared it completely.

Anything I'm missing or should try? Its really annoying not being able to power up under battery.

Fixed my own problem, I plugged a different battery in and it magically worked from battery. Then I plugged in the original battery and it worked from that as well, still dont know why but hey the problem is fixed.
