I have an HP dv6815nr laptop with an power issue I've only seen once. This is not my laptop. This was a laptop I was giving to repair for someone. It seems to maybe be a motherboard issue but not sure. Its not the screen nor software issue. Does not even post into BIOS. Just sits there andnturns it self on and back off. Tried everything. Power cable battery everything!

Any ideas what it could be? Here's a video. Sorry for the video and spelling. All video and posting was done thru my phone

This video is private. But from the description you posted it could be a few things... E.g.: grounding issues/leaking, (spurious) WOL/Modem Ring, RTC wakeup and so on...

Not easy to debug, are you sure HP can't help you there? [HP reps are actually visiting this forum... but probably not on weekends...]

In my experience I have booted computers in to windows successfully without even a heatsink on a cpu, when testing. Then turned it off straight away.

Do you know what happened before it needed repair? or was this sudden?

It shut off on them, Then would not cut back on. Last night on ebay there was 2 of the EXACT same model and both were for parts/repair with the SAME problem. Looked on youtube and the fix was to repaste it and such. Right now the laptop is completely gutted til I get some thermal paste lol
