I'll see what I can do, but I have no idea how to do any benchmarking.

"old DV6TQE"? The old thing you got almost 2 weeks ago? You must love to wait so much that you thought you'd do it again. :)

PS. I wish mine was at a FedEx facility.

Just follow that link, select Software from the menu, and download a free 30-day Performance Test.

Terrible, as the intel wifi also comes with blutooth for only 15 bucks. Arguably the biggest bang for your buck in terms of upgrades available to the dv7/dv6

Costco has the dv6t and dv7t ivy bridge pre-configured up now. Unfortunately, they offer them with lower res screens (1366 x 768 and 1600 x 900 respectively) and a lower class Nvidia chip (630M). Of course, select the option to customize either the two to get the 650M and screen upgrades.

Press release for more HP notebooks. Looks like the dual core IB dv6, along with some other models are slated for June 20. The silver color looks quite good, imo.

You can get an intel card with bluetooth for like $20-$25 off ebay. And the wifi card is easy to replace too, so not a big deal.

It's true, if you want to use bluetooth products you may have made a mistake. If you don't, however, the only difference between the two cards is the company making them.

Since the first option (which I went for also, btw) is unbranded it is most likely Broadcom. The second option is just an Intel branded card. It will probably have a somewhat better battery life and range but I'm guessing something you would only notice if you had the two right next to each other. If you really want it I'd call them tomorrow morning and complain. Maybe something could happen.

And, like R3d so helpfully said up above, you can replace it pretty easily yourself.

Hmm I wonder if the m6 will be on par with the dv6, I like the fact that it is thinner but still has an optical drive. When more details come out I will make my decision to keep or return my dv6

How much did the student discount get you? Did you mention you were a student and they just gave it to you or did you need some proof? I missed out on the $400 coupon and was looking to get at least that amount back. I already have a 128GB M4 SSD, CS5, and a cooler mat but no laptop; I don't know if i'll have the patience to wait for the next better coupon to come out.

Going after market is your best best for 2 reasons.

1 Both cards that hp offer are b/g/n, an after market card will have a/b/g/n

2 If you cancel the order your bank will hold your funds for 5 days, not sure if that matters to you but if you don't have enough money to place the order again that's another 5 days you have to wait.

Regarding going after market for a new wifi card, can you choose any you want (that fits eheh) or are we still limited to the ones HP whitelisted on the bios?

Just ordered a dv6t yesterday from HP and its going to be delivered today. I love that it's shipping from Memphis and I live in Memphis. My only problem is I just ordered an M14x R2 for around $650 with the Military discount on AAFES. It was almost half what I paid for the dv6t with almost the same specs...

You need a .edu email, and your school needs to be on HP's list when creating an Academy account. I think there are ways for high school students to get the discount too, but it gets more complicated.

I have tried alot of cooling "pads" this is a fan I bought from walmart that I zip-tied up under this makeshift "desk" lol, I get about 15 degrees difference under load.

Regarding the image I tried to post, nevermind apparently notebookreview still isn't accepting pictures and avatars.... but it's cool trust me.

tell us about the screen quality, contrast, colours, brightness etc. and if possible a comparison to another notebook. Also how the gt 650 performs in some games. for last, the general impressions, build quality, keyboard feel, touchpad performance and not to forget the audio quality(if possible compared to xps 15 or something similar). that would make a great review.

    Ditto on the memory.
    for the DV7 I would love to know;
Does it come with a secondary drive caddy? the Italian review vid had it installed without a drive when he took the back cover off.
If the mssd really is msata? can it cache an HDD installed in the secondary bay?

Oh, I'll pass on the Bluetooth then. Possibly mid-heavy video editing, FL Studio for instrumentals, Word, etc. for assignments and other tasks. But since this is my first laptop I just want the best performance and quality I could get for the money.

Nah, not an engineer, I'm a business major. Guess I'll stick with 8 GB then. Thank you both for your feedback.

In theory it doesn't add any extra range but some reviews say that an Intel wifi card is better than the unbranded version that comes standard (which is most likely made by Broadcom). If you aren't happy with the base version you can always upgrade it down the road.
