Is there any way to find out what Full HD Anti-Glare panel HP is using in the dv6tqe? With the discount coupon I'm really tempted to order one of these laptops in the next couple of days. HP describes the screen exactly the way Lenovo does for the Full HD 1900x1280 offered on the W520. That's known to be a very good screen. If HP is using the same panel, I'll be a happy camper. It'd be nice to know before I pull out the credit card.

Sadly nobody knows yet. A couple members have shipped today so we should know in about a week or so. Damn holiday is going to push the shipping back a week though. Mine should ship tomorrow. I'm guessing it will probably arrive friday of next week if I'm lucky. A couple of people have talked to reps and received info that it is a 95% gamut. All we can do is hope at the moment

I currently have a shortcut on my desktop and right click on it, then click on eject. Is there a better way to do this without having to install a program?
-
Attention DV7-6015 owners

I already posted the link to the Ejection gadget.
Here's a link:
Create a Shortcut or Hotkey to Eject the CD/DVD Drive - How-To Geek
This uses a utility from Nirsoft, they have lots of great utilities to check out. Nirsoft.net.
Instead of using nircmd.exe you can make a VBScript to do it. Just Google "eject CD with VBScript" and do a little research. -
There is a 25% off Memorial Day discount code(MEMORIAL25) for the dv6 now at LogicBuy.com

I used to hate Norton - would use Malwarebytes pro in conjunction with Avast Internet Security.
Norton has been great. Really easy to use - no problems at all. (No I'm not a Norton rep) -
What's the wireless card that HP is putting in the dv7tqe? Seems it's a single band, but what model number card?
-
Another thought... how easy is it to open these up? Easy like Clevo or hard (like have to remove keyboard & monitor)? I would try to get to the cpu & gpu heatsinks.
-
Thanks. I plan to contact technical support when I receive my pc just to see what they say. Will post outcome.
-
I would love to get that same bag. Where in the world did you find it for $25?
-
I got the 6GB RAM in my dv6t. Does anyone know for sure the brand of the 4GB stick that will be in mine? I've read that it's Micron. Can anyone confirm? If yes, then this is fine, right? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190433325994&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
-
In my experience the manufacturers of the RAM in laptops even from the same company can vary, I would recommend waiting till you get your machine, then pop it open and see what is in it to be sure you get the same make/model/timings of memory if you're looking to do dual channel.
-
A few days ago, NewEgg they had it for $25/shipped in some sort of short sale.
It's a great bag, I'm not sure why some people online gave it subpar reviews.
Anyway, mine was delivered to the house a short while ago, so I'm officially an "owner" now.

Can someone please explain to me what the diff is between and dual band and a single band wireless card? Are they any practical differences?
-
A single band traditionally supports just b/g/n since they are all on the same wireless frequency band. You can get 'a' only cards, but that's pretty rare anymore (an a only card would also be single band). b/g/n are 2.4 GHz, a is 5 GHz. A dual band card supports b/g/n and a (2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands)
-
A is hardly ever supported or necessary. Even b is more of a legacy standard. While g is mostly mainstream.
If you really need A, buy a USB adapter. -
Also, the 5 Ghz Frequency offers a much higher link rate and stability than the 2.4 at the cost of range. Which only applies to those who could and knows how take advantage of it.
-
+1, this is the real benefit. The 802.11n protocol can operate on 2.4 or 5ghz. The 5ghz band is going to give you a cleaner signal with less interference for media streaming, etc. However, it typically doesn't have the range that 2.4ghz does.
-
Thanks for clarifying that for everyone. I was just about to write a similar note. Also, 5ghz is less crowded and if you have a lot of 2.4ghz signals in the vicinity as I do, you might want to use 5ghz for more stability and less interference. I have a dual-band wireless router and would like to take advantage of it if possible. I lose my 2.4ghz frequently and also experience speed degradation, especially during the day. I have yet to determine if it is an issue with my provider or with signal interference.
-
Something a lot of people arent aware of is that Microwave ovens operate in the 2.4 GHz range (think about that next time you're on your cell phone with it up next to your head, 3g/4g operate from 1.8-2.4 GHz). So if you notice signal degradation or drops when you're cooking food, I'd look into a new one as the door probably isnt sealing properly.
-
Something I just noticed, the new design of the DV6T really looks like it was inspired by a steampunk design. It looks cooper and has a lot of similiar curves that you find on props in the steampunk world.

So what kind of laptop coolers is everyone using with this laptop. I want to get a good one that works well with the design of the dv6t.
-
I've got a Amazon.com: Cooler Master Notepal U2 Notebook Cooler with Two Fans R9-NBC-8PBK-GP: Electronics
I had this for my previous laptop as well, I like it cause you can put it around the laptop in the case and not take up any extra space, also the fans can be positioned anywhere. Comes with an elastic band to hold it to the notebook.
When I got my dv7tqe I bought the 3 fan version but it was way too big even for the 17 inch. The rubberized feet of the dv7tqe just fit on the smaller 2 fan one. -
That looks neat. I may decide to get one of those if my laptop likes to get too hot.

typically you want to use the 5Ghz band for high definition video streaming or large file sharing as the bandwidth is significantly increased over 2.4Ghz.
802.11n with 5Ghz can get you 100 megabits per second or more in most cases.
Remember that this will increase the speed over your local network or local wireless connection, it is not necessarily going to increase your internet browsing speed. -
I will take note of that next time I use the micro. I don't think that is my case though - unless it's the NEIGHBOR'S microwaves interfering with my "productivity"! I have a large two-story house and use wifi mostly downstairs on the opposite side of the house from my router, which is upstairs. I am seriously thinking about relocating my router so the signal does not have to go through so many walls and floors to get to me.
-
A lot of things can interfere with wireless range and capability. All the obvious things like walls and doors and such, but some of the less obvious things include pipes with running water, fish tanks, the type of material a wall or floor is made out of can change it as well. The corner of a wall is brutal as it can act like 2-3 walls between the device and router because of the angles and thickness.
When doing site surveys its found frequently that a few inches can make a world of difference in signal quality. That's why the antennas on most wireless routers can be repositioned, it causes the radio waves to bounce differently off of the various obstacles they are located near.
Not to mention they are subject to interference from just about everything electronic (cell phones, speakers, TVs, cordless house phones, microwaves, other devices on the same electrical home circuit (even if they arent necessarily a wirelss transceiver), etc)
This is why MIMO routers are so nice, they can use more than one of the antennas or dynamically switch between them for the best signal based on the signal to noise ratio at any given moment. If you have a MIMO router (either G MIMO or N (MIMO is part of the N specification)) you should position each of the antennas differently to give the best signal diversity. Dont just point them all straight up or something. -
How has the quality been for you. I see some complaints of the fans going out. But every cooler has its complaints. I also really like the ability to mive the fans, seems good to be able to target specific hot spots. And for the price with free 2 day amazon prime it looks like the route I am going to go. Do you use is on your lap or on a desk?
-
My first one I had for a full year and it always worked fine. I sold it with the laptop and it was still working. As it aged I noticed that right when it turned on I could hear the fans a little bit, but as it was on for a few minutes the sound of the fans would go to pretty much silent again.
I used this cooler quite a lot. I'm a third shift worker and I always bring my personal laptop to work, so we're talking that cooler would be on 30-40 hours a week for a year before I sold it and the laptop.
I sold that one with my first laptop simply because I thought it would be too small for a 17" notebook. As I mentioned, when I received the 3 fan version with my dv7tqe it was way too big, so I sent it back and bought the same 2 fan version again. -
Alright thats good to hear. It doesnt look like it would be too comfortable on the lap but hey you can win them all. I'm probably going to but this tuesday so that it comes thursday, and that way I will get both packages the same day =)
-
These QE edition computers have NO BUSINESS being run on ANYTHING other than a flat hard surface. Don't be an idiot.
-
^mad
I'll be using mine everywhere. -
So you saying not to use my laptop on my lap? I dont understand?
-
Why? I've always used my laptops on my lap - sometimes on a flat surface on my lap, other times directly on my lap. Have never had a problem with any of them as a result and I have had a number of different laptops - both my own and work issued.
-
I have never looked into this before. Am I going to be missing something or are most signals 2.4ghz? Would a wireless n emit both signals or just one? I would assume that single band 2.4ghz is fine since most laptops come with singele band, no?
-
Wow.
It will work fine on your lap for light usage with the integrated graphics. Obviously you don't want extended gaming sessions with the Radeon graphics enabled. You'll cook the swim team and won't be able to reproduce.
Flat hard surface for proper ventilation Tahoe1. -
LoLs at this. Wouldnt want to cook the swim team now would we. But with the cooler on your lap and the laptop on the cooler I'm thinking the swim team should be just fine. I dont see why this would be a problem at all

Is the "Full HD HP Anti-glare LED Display (1920 x 1080)" a glossy screen with a anti-glare coat or a regular matte screen?
-
Nobody knows for sure because nobody (here) has received theirs yet.
-
has anyone's 1080p screen shipped yet? Sorry if someone already mentioned this, but I didn't have time to watch this thread the last week or so.
-
Yes. A number of laptops with the new 1080p screen shipped yesterday and today - mine shipped today. We should begin seeing reviews in a few days.
-
Me! I should get mine by mid to the end of next week...excited!
-
I'm looking at this laptop over an xps 15 and a macbook pro 13 and was wondering if anyone could give me some feed back on the following good/bad:
1. Design (anything big or small)
2. Performance/Heat/Fan
3. Keyboard/Touchpad
4. Portability
5. Overall Satisfaction
I was also wondering how much the student discount for this laptop is (i don't want to make an account unless it is worthwhile). -
There have been many postings that address your questions. I would say that the overall impression is good. I purchased a dv6tqe and returned it as the resolution was poor compared to what I was accustomed to. I reordered with the new screen that was offered beginning 5/18.
1. Design - it is nicely designed and very solid. Some have complained that the silver strip that runs around the computer is flimsy - I did not find that to be the case.
2. Performance is great! Extremely fast, nothing to complain about. The fan noise is average and not intrusive. I did not experience any heat issues.
3. Love the keyboard. It's a small adjustment from a traditional keyboard, but I found the spacing comfortable and the keyboard was solid and responsive. I did not use the touch pad extensively as I prefer to use an external mouse. When I did use it I found it to be responsive, though it took a little while to get used to the multi-gesture functionality. I like the pinch enlarge/reduce function.
4. Very portable. Its less than 6 lbs. That is nearly half the weight of the desktop replacement laptop that I am currently using, so for me it is as light as a feather!
5. With the exception of the screen, I was very happy with it. I am certain I will be overjoyed with the replacement.
I don't know what the student discount is but the employee discount is about $200 depending of course on configuration. There is currently a 25% off coupon available - the code is MEMORIAL25. Not sure when it expires, but due to free upgrades the 25% off is nearly equivalent to the 30% off coupon that recently expired.
You can configure a system, place it in the cart and apply the discount code to see your total cost - all before you complete the order, so you can configure and remove items from your cart to your hearts content - all without creating an account. -
Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has received the silver version? How does it look? Better then the dark umber color?
-
Likely won't have that answer until next week - I think the first ones shipped yesterday.
-
It looks new dv6&dv7 won't be delayed any more like March and April, and I think my order will be shipped soon like the others.
-
Did you order the silver version? I'm debating on umber or silver?
-
No, I actually stuck with the umber. I thought it was a nice change from silver. If you are near a Costco you can go there to see the umber color or look at some of the videos on youtube to get an idea. It's hard to tell about the silver from the HP website - it looks like it is gun metal gray, but then again, the umber looks black.
