It gets a little smudgy, but lesser than the DV7t - I guess because of the color on the DV7t, it shows up more.
Do remember that Dell's return policy isn't as good as HP's. If you have buyers remorse, then they charge a restocking fee (if nothing is wrong with the notebook). HP is just too good as far as their customer service is concerned. I have bought 5 HP notebooks for my family in the past 2 years alone.![]()

I went through the color calibration process for the Radeon as well and don't see the specific settings. I think they are different as when I do this, I does not appear to modify my Intel settings.
I use my laptop for a lot of text-based activities so the true-type settings are important to me. I did a lot of fudging with them and I am pretty happy with it right now. My eyes tend to like different settings, so I will likely continue fudging and will post new settings if I come up with anything better.
I have a calibration disc that I bought to use with my HDTVs - have never used it, but may try it on my laptop when I have the time just for the heck of it. -

I had the screen set to go to sleep after 30 min and the hard drive after 30min to hour if there was no activity. My other laptops I had were mostly on 24hour a day operation and did not have problems with them either. -
please tell me whether it is possible to turn off the backlight of the touch pad on all the time?

And every time when you reboot your laptop, you will be always pushing these keys?

Just found a new Coupon Code for the DV7T Quad NB4151(30 Percent Off!)
There's Also one for the DV6T Quad NB6171 (30 Percent Off!)
I applied it to my order and saved an extra $159 over my previous savings. I had previously applied the $300 off coupon before this so thats a total savings of $459 from the 30Percent off.Considering seeing if they will let me cancel and recreate the order with this percent off as I could get a way nicer config. We will see
On the phone with them now... All SEEMS to be going well aha.
Edit: If I cancelled right now and re-ordered I would have a build date of May 31st when my current build date is June 6th. I guess they don't update that number on the site Lol. Makes me confident in the idea that I will receive the laptop early though. I would reorder with better parts but I'm told it will take "3-5 business days to get the money credited back to the card" which is great since it only took one for them to take it (hold it) in the first place. Point being I'm a student and don't have the cash to have two $1300 charges out right now. Still though way happy about the savings.
I've called them three times now (2 times to order the ADP and Once for the price change) and every time I have made an "excellent choice" either everyone is finally realizing I'm brilliant or I'm being marketed too Haha.
Note: Sorry for the retarded colours but I wan't to make sure people know and can update their purchases -
Do any SATA III (6GB/s) mechanical laptop drives actually exists?

Laptop Mechanical Hard Drives, SATA III 6.0Gb/s -
I am used to refresh the browser by F5 key in my old laptop. In dv7t I need to use fn+F5 for same. As this key does not have any other function, is there a way to enable F5 to work with out fn key?

I did manage to stumble upon these articles from 2008 -
Servers DO mostly fail due to HD related problems, but it's not because of their continuous spinning (spinning idle it's the less painful state of a mechanical hard drive, it could do for a million hours avg. from what the manufactures says) but for their intense activity.

There are many server HDDs which are spinning now that if stopped would fail.

So does the QE [email protected]/3.3 ghz and the AMD 6770 GPU have the switchable graphics? I was reading all of the old threads (oldish like around Jan. 2011) and they were all complaining about 2-3 hour battery lives because of the non-switchable graphics. This driver IS out right?

Guys just a quick question, how long does it take to get the confirmation email once you buy a laptop?
I've tried FOUR times to buy a laptop and my order would just get cancelled(got the email after 3 days), I've tried a FIFTH time and I just want to know when should I get my email so I don't get my hopes up..
I just wanted my dv6 so bad ): -

Hey, guys, I've been looking at gaming laptops recently, and for my approx. $800 budget I thought my best choice would be the dv6tqe with 6770m graphics.
http://www.logicbuy.com/deals/coupon-hp-pavilion-dv6t-16-inch-quad-edition-laptop/15717.aspx
However, I see that the dv7 looks like an identical computer except for a larger screen and better resolution, for only like $70 more.

Would that be a better choice for gaming? Or would the higher resolution decrease performance??? -
That was the same decision I had to make. This would be the first laptop I ever had, so did a lot of research/seeing what I like best. I found that I can enjoy a laptop with any native resolution and prefer to have a bigger monitor. More pixels on the dv7 should lead to a better quality game too. At 1600x900 with the 6770m I think most current games can run at least high settings.
This really is all speculation but it's what I based my decision on to buy a dv7tqe. In conclusion: I picked the dv7 over the dv6 because the actual screen is bigger enabling me to appreciate more widescreen games and movies. I wasn't worried about battery life because I will be plugged in >90% of the time.
One thing to note is that the laptops you have linked use a 5400rpm HDD. I chose the 7200 assuming it will be faster, though not as fast as an SSD.
Good luck! -

Can I run the original Crysis on max settings with good fps on either one?
-
I purchased the dv7 over the dv6 because of the higher des, double hdd bays (allowing for an ssd upgrade for the os for more speed), subwoofer, longer warranty and, full keyboard. You still have the issue of having to lug around a larger laptop and pay a slightly higher price tag in addition to the slightly lower frame rates. In the end though it all come's down to what you want in your machine.
For the Hard Drive speed I don't think you will notice the performance difference that much in the Laptop.
For gaming I've never had my hard drive be my issue on speed for other tasks I don't think the difference between 5400 and 7200 will be terribly noticeable.
I upgraded my DV5T to a 7200 Scorpio 320GB WD HDD from the HP installed 5400RPM 250GB around a year and a half ago and the improvement was minimal if even noticeable... You have to remember faster Disc Speeds do not necessarily equate to faster read/write speeds they are just one factor.
If you really want it to be noticeable get an SSD for the boot drive.
Do remember though that SSD's degrade with use and you will eventually end up with lower performance/space the more read/writes that are done. I'd recommend just getting a small SSD for the OS and any important programs that will never be removed and wont write often to the SSD. Once my laptop arrives I'm going to use my savings to get a small one for the second bay then clean install everything.
Newegg has small drives for cheap so SSD's don't necessarily have to be the incredibly expensive price tag we've all come to know
(30 GB OCZ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227393 (84.99)
(60 GB OCZ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227550 ($104.99)
(120 GB OCZ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227551 (209.99)
Point being that was my reasoning for choosing the 750GB 5400 over the 7200 as I could have large file storage while also having a quick system when paired with the SSD. This results in a fast system that still has plenty of storage space.
For info on individual game fps on the laptop follow* the link

What are all the differences between the two models?
-
It will just depend on your needs. I wouldn't expect a huge speed difference so if capacity is more important go with the 5400. -
I just called and asked my account to be credited for th free blue ray player they are offering now, and they credited me 50 bucks.
-
The blue ray player upgrade was otherwise a $100 difference, you should have been given that amount. -
Actually, as the data density on each platter is higher you're not going to see strictly higher speeds. I chose the larger hdd with 5400rpm as they say that the 7200rpm hdd uses more electricity and gets hotter. As I want my dv6 to be portable, these are a bigger deal than being marginally faster. If I want faster, I'll plunk out $100's for a SSD.
When I built my first desktop back in 2005, I was all crazy for the fastest thing possible to make my gaming experience the very best. I used raid 0 and striped that bad boy so that XP would load really fast and my hdd wouldn't be as limiting of a factor. Turns out time made my computer a limiting factor and my two 7200rpm striped hard drives really weren't that much faster than just a single drive for every day use. Especially when i didn't have money to update the computer a few years later.
Thats not to say I have any factual merit behind what I'm saying...purely anecdotal! -
I got mine instantly. Using a gmail, with Google Chrome on a Mac.

Whoops too late; no refresh. So what about the switchable graphics? With SB i7 and ATI 6770? Please?
-
From everything I've read (reviews, posts, videos) everything after the "refresh" has switch-able graphics. January was before the "Spring-Refresh" (Model Update)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgOTfZz3X7E T
That has the 2.0 i7 and switch-able graphics (37 Second Mark) . I don't see any reason as to why the 2.2/2.3 would not have switch-able graphics as well since they would have to use a different board instead of simply using a different CPU.
If you're waiting to buy and want to be patient I will deffinetly have an answer for you when mine arrives (expected June 6th but I believe it could be as early as May 23/24th) -

AAggghh.. Now I wish i got professional... Sorry.

This screen is making me bad, I was starting to get use to the screen door effect and I went to Best buy and checked one of the older gen Dv7s and the screen looks far better.
I confirmed the the resolution was the same at 1600x900 and it just looked far more clear. How do you guys check the monitor type?
I went to device monitor but all it shows is Generic PnP monitor -

Generic PnP monitor(right click)->Properties->Details->Property->Hardware ID
There are several different suppliers, but they are ALL per HP Brightview specification. Could there be differences? Sure, but people must not think much of HP quality control. I have a [n older] SEC3354, which is far from perfect, but generally fine. I WISH my eyes were good enough to even SEE a screen door effect ... which CAN BE evident on projectors, but on laptop displays??? Exactly how far away are your eyes from the screen ... less than a foot?????
