Discussion for the (soon to be) owners of the HP dv6t Quad Edition notebook.
I actually ordered an HDX16t two days ago, then this notebook popped up. I cancelled my order for that one, and ordered the dv6t with the following specs:
HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition customizable Notebook PC
• Espresso Black
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
• 50% OFF!! 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• FREE Upgrade to 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
• 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
• 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
• Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
• Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
• Intel Wireless-N Mini-card
• HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
• HP Color Matching Keyboard
• High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
• No Modem
• Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
• HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
Pretty much every performance oriented spec outperforms the HDX16t for about the same price. DDR3 RAM instead of DDR2, better graphics card, quad core processor vs. dual core, etc. Plus, it's nice having Windows 7 pre-installed now...don't have to worry about upgrading. Just wish it had an optional 1080p screen like the HDX16t.
-
I ordered one too. I had the Hdx16 as well. But There was some issues w/ it so I returned it. and ordered that one last night.
I'll post my specs later since I'm in school right now. -
LOL, I cant believe so many people were gonna do the same thing as me.
I also changed mine to dv6t quad.
So, you guys think the dv6t quad is better than HDX 16t, right?
I want it to have a backlit keyboard. lol
My order's spec is:
HP Pavilion dv6t Entertainment Quad Edit
Moonlight White
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
50% OFF!! 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
FREE Upgrade to 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
Lightscribe Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
Webcam Only
Wireless-G Card
No TV Tuner w/remote control
HP Color Matching Keyboard
6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
No Modem
Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
Is this good enough?
Thank you -

Hey prospective and current dv6t Quad Edition owners,
I've got a driver thread up for this notebook series. Be sure to check it out if you need to update or re-install your notebook's device components!

I'm about to pull the trigger and order one that has the same specs as envy's. Only thing I'm left hesitant about is whether I'll be happy with the 1366x768 resolution, the battery life, and the gaming performance. Also, I'm unsure whether this has 100Mbps or 1Gbps ethernet. The specs say it has 100Mbps but that may just be remnants from the non-Quad edition dv6t (the specs also mention the Radeon HD 4570 but the Quad Edition isn't configurable with one). Also, the PM55 (which I am assuming this notebook uses) is supposed to have integrated Gigabit ethernet. Do you guys know which type of ethernet this has?
[Edit: Ordered the same configuration as envy. Should arrive on Nov. 3rd or Nov. 4th! Carmen on the sales team really helped me out on the phone!]

Yeah....I'm getting a little nervous about whether or not I'll be dissapointed with the 1366x768 screen. My current laptop is a 2+ year old 17" dv9000t with a 1680x1050 resolution, so that may be a very noticable step down in resolution when I get the dv6t. Everything else about the laptop will blow away my current one.....I just don't understand why they limit the screen options so severely. -
I ordered mine. Actually, I ordered mine on Sunday, but after the additional $200 coupon came out, canceled and re-ordered with 6gb of RAM. Here is what I have coming:
HP Pavilion dv6t Entertainment Quad Edit
Espresso Black
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
Intel Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
No TV Tuner w/remote control
HP Color Matching Keyboard
6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
No Modem
Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
I already have a TV tuner and Bluray reader on my HDX18 so I skipped on those options. Can't wait to race the quad cores against each other. -
Hi all - I've searched the HP UK website for the specification of the new DV6t laptop and can't find any model with a Blu-Ray drive? Is the DV6t available only with standard optical drive?
-
I plan on doing YouTube videos and articles (posted on here) for the unboxing, first impressions, and review so stay tuned for that. -
I don't mind the screen resolution on this laptop because for the short time I had the Hdx16, I didn't like the high reso... so I had changed the res.. to something like what this dv6 has in control panel...
So if anything, I'll just use the "+" symbol to make the font bigger via the number pad. -
Is the "long life" battery the same size as the 6-cell?
Does anyone know how long it lasts vs the 6-cell and high-capacity 6-cell?
Finally, does the 12-cell extend beyond the bottom of the laptop as it does on the DV4 series? (that's the only HP laptop series i'm really familiar with.) -
Has Anybody recieved this laptop yet ?
Any first impressions of how the laptop is -
I ordered mine the first day it appeared on their website, and the status still shows that the build will be completed and shipped on the 27th of October.
So I doubt, anyone else has their's yet.
EDIT: Then again....maybe someone has a store bought version, since windows 7 is officially released. -
-
I went to best buy to check out their Dv6t and I loved the overall feel to it. it was beautiful. and seemed lite. When holding it, it did not seem so heavy. So I think I'm really going to enjoy it.
-
I just picked up my new laptop today for $1,313AUD
Specs:
HP Pavilion DV6-2005tx
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
• Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB)
• 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive
• 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
• 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
• Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer
• Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
• Intel Wireless-N Mini-card
• HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
• HP Color Matching Keyboard
• 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Not exactly like the DV6t but close. -
Any UK users know how / where I can customise a DV6t? The HP UK website only has pre-configured models and no ability to customise. Any help appreciated.
-
Any initial opinion on how the laptop is ?
-
-
I second this. Also, if you don't mind, I'm curious what it's Windows Experience Index scores are. -
How does the Nvidia 230m fare against Nvidia 240m ?
-
-
Im in Australia and we dont get to customise HP laptops, all of them come prebuilt. You buy the model that has exactly what you need. The specs are on par with the DV6t except for a bigger hard drive.
I will do some tests tonight to see how the gaming side of things perform. Will be testing Call of Duty 5.
Windows Experience Index
Processor: 6.1
Memory: 7.4
Graphics: 6.4
Gaming Graphics: 6.4
Primary hard disk: 5.9
Base Score: 5.9 (determined by lowest subscore)
Highest score achievable under windows 7: 7.9
Havent had time to fully test it but happy so far. -

has anybody got the clearance delay as well ?
-
Hey guys
I received an email from HP, and it says the order has shipped. They provided the tracking NO. but the NO. doesn't work.
I wait for almost 2 days, and it still says "No information for the following shipments/FedEx Office orders has been received by our system yet." From fedex.
Is there anyone experiencing the same thing as me?
Should I call HP? or Should I wait til the estimate build date which is October,30?
Also, anyone receive the laptop yet? (only asking people who ordered from HP U.S. website)
Thank you -
I am having the same problem, fedex said that they don't get tracking info till it gets to the US.
-
My order shipped Tuesday and I likewise do not have an active FedEx code yet.
I noticed this on the shipping receipt email:
** For CTO Notebooks, add a minimum of one shipping day for customs clearance.
I had to look up CTO, but it means "Configured to order" - which, of course, I did. I have no idea where it's coming from, but I suppose customs is the bottleneck here...
And hey, we should all be thankful we're not in the same boat as the guys ordering the Studio XPS 16...many of them had their orders canceled or delayed by nearly 30 days. -
Yeah, mine has been stuck in Anchorage, Alaska for a couple days now with a clearance delay....
It was supposed to be here yesterday....
Oh, BTW, thanks for posting that information steveagle.....I was definitely expecting the processor score to be higher than the graphics card score for some reason. It's kind of wierd that it's the second lowest score though. -
Well, FedEx finally has information for my notebook that "shipped" on Tuesday. It is "In Transit" in "Shanghai, CN". The current estimated delivery date is Monday, November 2 (which means I won't get to set it up until I get home that evening unless I decide to go home for lunch to pick it up).
Edit: Now I have the </wonderful> message "Package received after FedEx cutoff". -
I got the information from Fedex, but what the hell happen to my free two days shipping.
Ship date: Oct 29, 2009
Estimated delivery Nov 3, 2009 by 10:30 AM
I guess because it is from China. Hope they have good quality of the product or I will be super pissed. -
hi has anyone got it.give your impressions about it.is it hot on idle.what is the performance of gt230m.thanks
-
I'm getting ready for work, so
I will say that w/ my initial impression, that I don't like the keyboard.
Meaning that its keys are not smooth like the past dv7 I had and my dv6700t
the keys overall has a roughish feel to it.
and the Bar for the adapter to connect into the wall is Huge... Holey Hell...Why so big? the 7 inch models were not like that. it is in fact smaller than this one. -
-
I received the same email stating that my order had shipped a few days ago, but the Fedex tracking number was not working until day before yesterday. Original estimated build date on my dv6t quad was Sep. 29. When the tracking number finally started working my estimated delivery date was Nov. 3 which was annoying, but I checked the tracking number this morning and my laptop is on the Fedex truck on its way to my home in Raleigh, NC. IMO, going by the original Sep. 29 build date and getting the laptop delivered on Sep. 30 isn't so bad after all. I wasn't truly expecting it (from the beginning) until Monday at the earliest. Now I get to play with it all weekend!

Status Update:
I just finished creating the recovery disks and I backed up the HP branding. I am now in the process of formatting and reinstalling with Windows 7 Ultimate. I should have a review or at least a first impression out by tonight.
Things Worth Mentioning:
The trackpad had a lot of friction when I first started to use it, but as oil from my fingers started to deposit on it, it got slippery enough to use. Also, the keyboard has a little bit of flex, but not much. The screen seems to not have very good blacks (the blacks look dark greyish) and the viewing angles aren't terribly great (but still pretty decent). Also, the left side of the notebook has gotten a little warm. I recommend leaving the Fan Always On option in the BIOS as is, because elsewise it will be more noticeable when it ramps up. The notebook has Hardware Virtualization support but has to be enabled in the BIOS. It has a Realtek Gigabit ethernet interface and Firewire. -
-
If I may ask, how do you create recovery disks?
-
Well I received mine and did 3d mark 06 on it at 1280x1024
My HDX16T I ordered benchmarked at 5980.
The DV6T Quad benchmarked at 4971.
Futuremark score for the HDX16T was 1789 and the Dv6T quad was 2489.
The screen is of pretty poor quality the black levels are terrible and the keyboard feels really really cheap. The "clicky" buttons also on the mouse.
I'm still undecied which to keep.

Here is the Windows Experience Index after a clean install and all the latest drivers and updates installed:
-
Hmm...the impressions of the screen are pretty disheartening. That was my biggest concern, considering I'm coming from a 1680x1050 screen on my dv-9000t. I was concerned the resolution would be a huge step down, but to also hear of bad black levels and banding...really sucks.
Well...hopefully my laptop will arrive today. It shows it sitting in the local fedex facility at ten o'clock Hawaii time, so hopefully they get it on a truck for delivery before the end of the day. -
-
Received the laptop today around 6pm after a little argument with Fedex, but I'm having a little issue with my ram. It's only scoring a 5.9 WEI. I haven't updated any of my drivers yet so, we'll see what happens. Any ideas?
-
Yah mine has terrible black levels as well. I was able to make mine look a little better by going into control panel -- Hardware and Sound -- Display -- and then Calibrate Color and I turned the gamma all the way down there as well as in the Intel control panel. Honestly I don't think that the problem is entirely the screen. Part of it is just poor settings and no ability to change them!
-
Recieved my dv6t Quad Edition today. Mine has 6GB ram it and it definately a pretty quick computer.
It initially shocks you with it's screens quality, contrast, and brightness. It gives off an almost interlaced look. I guess it almost kills the point to have a better video card than my HDX18 with such a poor quality screen.
The keyboard does have a cheap feel. Not cheap like keyboard a that would break or anything, it's more like the cheap 80's keyboard you buy and it would work for a long time.
I am really on the wall now, and am thinking about returning this and grabbing an Envy or something with a better resolution (but not as big as my HDX18). -
well just reduce gamma and brightness a little bit in the nvidia cintrol pannel ,will give you much better black level.
-
The one thing that is just irking the crap out of me is the keyboard... It just feels so rough... does anyone know why they used that type of keyboard instead of the normal smooth keys?
Plus I went to Walmart last night and saw the same laptop but theirs had the smooth keys.
I was thinking to buy a new keyboard and have someone install it. -
