    Hi All
Just received my brand new, shiny, sparkling dv6t Quad Ed. laptop. I would like to make sure that everything is right with it in the 21 days window otherwise return the machine for a replacement.

    - What all should I check/test and how, to make sure nothing's wrong with it?
    - What are some of the recurring, common issues I should check for?
    - How can I stress test this laptop apart from wPrime? I dont have any games.

    Regards

-I would check for any cosmetic issues such as a lot of flex in the keyboard, scratches, cracked hinge, dead pixels. Then test the sound and make sure your speakers aren't defective.

-Some claim to hear 'popping' noises from the hard drive and speakers after a clean Windows 7 install. But yeah thoroughly inspect it. Any problems as I mentioned above RETURN IT as that is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

But remember its not going to be perfect ;)

in addition to what matt said:

with all new toys i get, i check every feature/function out to make sure it's working fine. connect to wireless networks, use all usb/audio/esata/vga/hdmi ports to ensure they're working, play games for a bit and check temps, etc.

i basically put my machine through good tests within the first 2 weeks of ownership. if you dont find anything wrong within that time frame, you should be good to go.

reoccuring/common issues are generally overheating issues. that's the 1 thing i see come up often but that depends on so many different variables.

test your machine on a flat desk with the rear of the unit raised about a half inch. also ensure the rear exhaust port/opening is free of any obstructions. that's the best way to get a reading of your idle temps.
