    Hi
I have a dv6t Quad ed with core i7 820QM processor. Is it possible to undervolt the processor or run it at lower speeds to save battery?

Did you try the "power management" settings in the control panel?
In Vista, it's the battery icon. If you have Win7 I don't know.

You can choose from -max performance, HP Recommended or POWER SAVING.
That will take action on screen brightness and processor powerstates to save on batteries.
Not too sure about the i7 power saving states.

You can probably disable TURBOBOOST and make sure speedstep is enables (probably is by default IMHO)

I recommend that u use the program CPUgenie.... it supports undervolting for core i7 processors... problem is that the program is a 30 day trial so you'll have to buy it... you can also buy a notebook cooling pad , which should help in reducing CPU and GPU temps...i would say that the notebook cooling pad would be a better investement...
