    With the 6 cell? HPs estimate is only 5 hours so I would have guess around 4. 5-6 is impressive for the 6 cell.

    Seriously. if you can hold a screw driver and turn it, you can disassemble this laptop. It's so easy. The service manual on hp's website is also easy to follow. You don't have to pry anything with excessive force either. I thought the hardest part was getting the ODD out cause it's a tight squeeze in there. Otherwise, no problem. I played BFBC2 for about 30 minutes, single player campaign, but the left palm rest didn't warm up as much. Kinda like it.

    Hello guys, I am new to the forum and interested in purchasing the dv6tse. I will enter college in a few weeks (engineering) and wanted a system that would last. This is the configuration I have been looking at:

    * Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    * Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-540M Dual Core processor (2.53GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.06GHz
    * FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    * FREE Upgrade to 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    * 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics
    * 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768)
    * No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)
    * SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    * Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
    * Full-size island-style backlit keyboard with HP TrueVision Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
    * 9 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (over-sized)
    * Microsoft(R) Office Starter 2010
    * HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

    I have been trying to read parts of this thread, and I have noticed that some guys have mentioned issues with the shipping method? Also, I've seen some discussion about the system temperature? Any issues I should know of?

    Suggestions/comments to improve my setup would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

    sigh, well here's a post multiplayer bfbc2 temp reading. should I feel better that my friends laptop actually hurts to touch when it's hot and shuts off by itself and mine doesn't exhibit either of those signs? lol. the positive part of the temp session is that the palm rest is barely warm.

    Post AS5 + Bfbc2

    That's pretty weird with the palm rest not getting warm even with those temperatures. How does the fan sound with those temperatures?

    Well I only used it for around 3 hours and estimate left was around 2 hours, and yeah 6 cell.

    Hey all,

    My understanding is that the Core i5 is a dual-core processor, but when I fire up the task manager and click on the performance tab, I see 4 little graphs going, not two. Also appears as 4 thingies in the device manager under Processors. On the other hand CPUID Hardware Monitor shows a Core #0 and a Core #2 only. What gives?

    Hyperthreading. Allows each core to act as two logical cores.

    And you should see Core #0 and Core #1 on cpuid hwmonitor.

    Thanks for the reply. That explains it. For some bizarre reason, however, hwmonitor is showing core #2 as the second core, not core #1.

    Another question, what is the best way to uninstall the older ATI/Intel graphics drivers and install the new ones (from the drivers thread.). I've been an nvidia man for pretty much ever, and this is my first comp with an ATI card in it (and my first laptop).

    Oh, I just realized this too lol. Core #1 and #3 must be the hyperthreads.

    I also find it weird, my name is engraved on one of the heat sinks and the first three letters of my name is on one of the heat pipes. Also, I find it weird there's no vent for the cpu. I think this is why the thing warms up the palm rest. The lack of a vent also allows another chip, i think thermometer, to register the internal temp or something. Don't ask me how I found out.

    I'll be ordering this laptop either tonight or tomorrow, but since my last laptop I bought had to be returned due to throttling issues when gaming, I'm curious if anyone has experienced any throttling issues when playing games? I've looked over this thread and haven't seen anyone, but I needed to ask :p

    No problems playing bfbc2 or the ballad of gay tony. I can actually finish TBOGT now that I have my dv6t-se lol. Could barely run it on my old m11x.

    Also, I didn't use a grounding strap, but I should have. Or just work on your laptop on a wooden floor. Touch metal before you work on your laptop etc. Also, don't scoot your feet on carpet while wearing socks before you work on your laptop.

    wow, this laptop out-performs the m11x? this isn't surprising since the specs are higher but when hp out performs alienware it just sounds pretty weird in some wayss :p (and for about the same price...)

    okay, the strap is only about 8 bucks i guess i can spare a few dollars just to be safe. And I don't have 99% alcohol to clean the original paste off, can i just use 70%? or would that damage the electronics due to the water?

    The m11x is ok at gaming, just like the dv6t-se but the dv6t will run games better that demand more cpu power.

    Also, the cooling system in the m11x is superior to the dv6t's. No hot spots lol.

    haha oh well, the heat is nothing major for me. I am going to apply arctic silver 5 and place it on a cooling pad, that ought to do it :p

    The only concern now is about the warranty... would disassembling the laptop void the warranty? if it does, is it still worth it?

    Guys, any comments on the setup I posted about a page ago?

    Also, which one of the following is a better upgrade for this system in terms of performance:
    * From i5 450m to i5 540m
    * From 500GB 7200RPM HDD to a 160GB SSD

    If you have enough $$, the SSD would be a better upgrade. It speeds up the machine a lot more than a i5 upgrade would. But I went for the i5 since i didn't have 100 more to spend... :(

    That's what I was thinking. I really did not want to shell out the extra $100, but I'll probably have this computer for the next four years. The only thing that worries me is that HP partitions a portion of the drive for system recovery, and the fact that Windows 7 will probably take up a nice chunk of space too. I wonder how much space there will truly be in a "160GB" SDD after these two things.

    Oh, that's not bad, seeing how I have only used 86GB of my "250GB" in about three years of owning this computer. Besides, I have a nice external backup drive in case things get too cluttered on the SSD.

    I don't know if you have looked at the specs I posted Nsxrrmaniac, but do you have any suggestions about worthwhile upgrades?

    Well, apparently YMMV, because I only had about 93 GB free on my C: partition (of about 127 GB). The D: recovery partition is 21.2 GB, of which about 3 GB are free, and there's an E: partition called "HP_Tools" which is tiny, about 98.9 Megabytes. I've created the recovery DVDs (5 of them) and now would like to expand the main C: partition to recover those 21.2 GB. Is there an idiot-proof guide somewhere to doing that if you're not doing a clean install of Windows 7?

I can not imagine ruining a game for 2 hours.
    This laptop was just display in the stand without running any process and get this hot.

    Yes, both of them underclock when idle/battery depending on what power settings you are using. And I would say the Dv6 is better value but if Envy 14 was available in Sweden I would buy it because of the two fans and the size would be perfect for me.

    But not saying that I am unhappy with the laptop, I just think the Envy suits me more but then again it will cost like $300-400 more here so it would still be a hard choice. If possible you should try to check them both out and see what suits you the most.

    Really depends what you are doing, internet surfing or playing a game for 10 mintues won't heat up anything. Try fully loading you CPU and GPU for 30+ mintues, plug into the wall for more heat :D

    the 3030tx is a preconfigured version of the dv6, which has a full plastic body chassis. dv6se has metal finish for part of the body, and can be configured to your own favor. But there are preconfigured dv6se on the market, the main dif is the material used.

    well, they CAN be the same, since 3030tx is already configured, you cannot customize it. dv6tse on the otherhand can be better or worse, you can customize your own model on hp website and order it, hp can "make" the laptop for u according to your hardware preferences. but then the dv6t model is customizable also on the website...
