I ordered a dv6t Select Edition, and have had it for about half a year now. Everything runs very smoothly except for one thing. Whenever I insert an SD Card, or certain USB connections, my computer lags like crazy and will not be fixed until I reboot it.

It only happens with certain USB wires, for example, whenever I plug in my iPod cable the computer lags. But when I plug in my phone cable, it doesn't. Lagging also occurs when I insert an SD card. It lags to the point where I have to wait a good 15 min just to open the start menu, and it takes about half an hour or more to completely shut down after initiating.

The computer has fairly strong specs(for me at least since I'm not very techy), and runs fairly well in all other areas and I have no clue why it does this. If someone could help out with a solution or a diagnosis, then it would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure that your AV software is not set to (aggressively) scan USB drives/storage devices when first inserted?

It isn't, I even uninstalled my AV Software temporarily and the issue remains.

Is it trying to sync the external storage?I know WMP try to do it.

A USB driver reinstallation might be a solution perhaps.

I would wonder if a default is corrupted or set funny for the Windows "autoplay" feature. I believe you can disable that or change it's default action through a Control Panel applet. I personally would try changing it to either "do nothing" or "ask you what you want to do everytime" when new media is inserted.
