I'd call HP and get someone one the phone that can do more than read. Given your scores I find it very hard to believe you are running ddr3. that would b a significant downgrade. My bet is that its a misprint. in gpuz, what does it show as the bandwidth on your dedicated?GPUZ etc. all say ddr3 on mine, but the bandwidth will tell the story. check it at stock 600/800 clocks. Should be right at 25.6 GB/s

What is yours reporting? Mine isn't even saying anything lol.
OK nvm it says the 6620g is 512mb ddr3 64 bit. But then it gets wierd. It says the other card is 6650/6630 1024MB 32 bit. All the clocks are way off. Wieeerd.
GAH windows update installed a new display driver while I was overclocked. This ain't good :p

you have a lot of room left to undervolt. :) For instance my p7 is set to .6875 volts.

As far as I know the 6750m only comes with GDDR5.

LOL, i better look :) I don't let MS add anything to my box until I get a chance to look at it myself. Some years ago, one of their automatic updates killed about 50 systems of a client of mine. Everyone of em had to be reinstalled from scratch...once the patch was applied it couldn't be rolled back. was a major 'duh'

what's the best way to test the lower clock P states? Do you lock them in and then run Prime or 3d Mark? I'm trying to check my under volt at the lower levels.

Click each of the clock speed buttons, then click apply. This will lock the clock speed for each core.

If some of you guys with 6750M's could post some GPU-z shots that'd be great. The GDDR5 version will have approximately 51 Gbps memory bandwidth, and the G/DDR3 version approximately 25 Gbps.

Seer i had the same problems running the physics test in 3dmark11. I noticed that when I turned the voltage up on my p0 or b0 depending on which one made it crash it solved it. It still locks up occasionally but for the most part one bump in voltage corrected it. Hope this helps

I noticed the same thing in my dv6. When ever I have xfire enabled the igpu runs 100% then 0 and 100% then o and my fps bounce too. I need to try and tweak it some more.

Man, I'm getting agitated now. I may have to exchange THIS unit. Even after the repaste, it's running hot now. Was playing Bad Company 2 @ 2.2GHz and temps got to 85C+, and started throttling. Stupid thing. I even made a mock laptop cooler, basically sitting on an upside down kitchen rack with a USB fan blowing directly on the CPU and didn't make a lick of difference.

Temperatures start normal, then over time slowly keep rising and rising. It's like it's a hotbox in there with no real way for the air to escape. Like there's a dead space by the CPU or something. I wish they made a way to take off an expose the heatsink and fan without disassembling the whole darn machine. I would see if open airflow helps with cooling.

Maybe something wrong with the heatsink? CPU? I dunno. Getting very frustrating.

Mine runs hot aswell. I reached about 91c running BC2 with my CPU at [email protected] and GPU stock.

I think that everybody else just plays less intensive games or have their CPU set to throttle at high temps or something.

Well that's at least good to know, thanks for update. I guess I may go ahead with my cooling mod then. Maybe I'll wait for my 21 days to be up though before I go hacking it up.

BC2 does seem to tax the CPU that's for sure. That's a good voltage for 2.4GHz. I have to run 1.1000. Whatever, it is what it is.

Ok. I've been toying with this laptop for a week now and I became fixated with this OC and undervolting parade.

    Specs:
    A8-3510mx
    8GB 1333
    6750m + 6220
    640gb 7200
    1080p

Im on the latest bios and OCed it with k10stat:

    B0: 2600 @ 1.15v
    P0: 2400 @ 1.0750v
    P1: 2200 @ 1.0375
    p2: 2000 @ 0.9750
    p3: 1800 @ 0.925
    p4: 1600 @ 0.8625
    p5: 1400 @ 0.8250
    p6: 1000 @ 0.7375

I've followed this thread and I don't know if I installed the correct video drivers but what I did was:
    1. Uninstalled the stock Catalyst and Installed the 11.8 preview driver package.
    2. Uninstalled the Display drivers in the device manager. rebooted.
    3. Went into SWsetup folder then in drivers I went to video_sab folder and custom installed the Catalyst setup there.
    4. Installed that profile the someone posted on this thread.

My current driver version in GPU-Z shows: atiumdag 8.832.0.0 / Win 7 64. Is this correct?

Anyways I have disabled ULPS, unlocked the OC on MSIAfterburner and have set the clocks at 730/900.

    Got 3d06: 9050+ (forgot exact value) and 3d11: 2023

My HWinfo temps show a max of 81c but usually stays at 77-79C on 100% CPU usage. I got GPU temps showing at max 76C but usually stays at 71-73C under load. I live in the Philippines so the normal temps here are 30-32C (86-89.6F).

Sorry for the long post. I just want to make sure if I did something wrong along the way. :p

I also want to thank you guys for posting so many useful info here and special thanks to seer for putting me in the right direction :)

The AMD link is not very clear. It mentions both - HD 6700M/HD 6600M
The HP link says dv6-6140ca has AMD Radeon HD 6755G2 (1GB DDR3)
whereas Amazon says it has : AMD Radeon HD 6755G2 Dual Graphics with 1024MB GDDR5 and up to 4085MB total graphics memory

HP DV6-6140CA 15.6" Notebook PC (Espresso Black): Amazon.ca: Electronics

Notebookcheck says 6650 could be 6750 with ddr3 memory and vice versa
    AMD Radeon HD 6650M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

So its just confusing and hopefully not a marketing gimmick. If 6650 is same as 6750 with slower memory , how can they call it as 6750 in dv6-6140ca.

HTWing had a 6650 in ASUS and a 6750 with GDDR5. Perhaps we can compare some benchmark between those two and anyone who has a model that says ddr3.
    Or maybe just call HP?

All 6750s have the faster GDDR5 with 800Mhz/128bit@51,2Gbit/s. And only the 6650s have the fewer DDR3, thus slower chips, running at 800Mhz/128bit@25,6Gbit/s.
Even my 6770M was shown in GPU-Z as having just DDR3 with 25,6Gbit/s. Just look at your CCC under the Information/Hardware Tab, and there should be the real bandwidth listed...

Although, if you fiddle to much with the amd drivers, you might end up with incorrect infos in CCC, like just one card shown, wrong amount of VRAM or the iGPU shown as AGP ^^. But the bandwidth was allways shown correctly for me.

I think the problem is that due to switchable graphics, many programs are grabbing some info from the 6750 and some from the 6620, and mixing it all together in a confusing heap.

There are several issues with the dv6z showing up with the right hardware.

    6750 snip.JPG

My temps with DOW2 average 72C. Playing Starcraft 2 and Section 8 Prejudice they have been hitting 85C. I even dropped my CPU down to 2.2 @ 1.0625. I didn't notice a performance hit, but also didn't drop the temps like I hoped. I'm thinking of trying 2.1 or 2.0 for my P0 and see how that runs.

Yeah CPU intensive games like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Starcraft 2 really push the temps high. Which is why I am going to try a cooling mod. I was running 85C+ also at 2.2 and 2.4GHz, even 2.0GHz it would get to 82C. At least now I feel better that my machine isn't at fault.

With that temperature creeping up that high it shows me the cooling system is vastly inadequate. The Asus I had temps would run 70C even at 2.2GHz, albeit the GPU was a bit lacking with the DDR3 RAM. But it ran cool. Beginning to regret my choice to keep the DV6z. :(

They really need to make the option for manually setting full fan speed because the default coolsense profiles are NOT adequate. Also, it seems that there's a dead space in the area of the CPU and GPU for the temps to keep creeping up like that. Even though the fan is pushing air across the heatpipes at the vent, there is hot dead air sitting above the CPU and GPU that gets no ventilation at all. I got an idea from an M11x mod which basically cuts slots in the fan housing that allows air to be pushed over the CPU and GPU. Throw some adhesive copper heatsinks on top of the CPU and GPU heatpipes and you theoretically should drop temps considerably. I guess time to charge up my dremel tool!

Well, I took off the bottom panel and had a USB fan blowing from the side towards the CPU and GPU and it kept temps <80C at 2.4GHz in Bad Company 2. So it is possible to keep it cool somehow.

There's not a lot of air getting in there from the fan either, since there's really very little openings to get air IN let alone hot air OUT, but if that little bit of cooling helps, then there's lots of opportunity for improvement. I don't think anything I do will make it worse for cooling, maybe just worse cosmetically, lol.

Access panel for HDD and RAM. I had my laptop sitting on an upside down wire mesh kitchen rack and a USB fan underneath, angled up an towards the area where the CPU resides. I was quite happy with the results, but then the game locked up, so not sure what the deal is there. However usually it would run > 85C at 2.4GHz.

UPDATE : AHA. My system reports 1GB of DDR5 for my 6750 in the CCC after I did the system restore! It looks like HP did a misprint. :)

Just opening that bottom panel helps temps pretty good. I think my wifi card is faulty though. Sometimes it's detected on boot up, sometimes it can't connect to my network. Anyone know if an Intel card will work in these?

edit: can't rep until tomorrow because gave out too much already.

But reading that thread, it appears if you enter the bios it can lock up or black screen you. I guess I may call HP and ask them to whitelist 6230 and in the meantime send me a replacement card.

Be carefull while testing this... I wanted to use that myself some time ago, but found out, that it's the one for the DV6t (sp54024.exe) models with Core-i/6770M which means that it could be a whole different bios without the 6750M clock part, etc.

    But I haven't found a sp54025.exe for the DV6z model...

Can you please share the link to download the 11.6a drivers to install here? I downloaded the 11.6a version but it doesn't recognize the graphic cards (I think that i need the mobility version)

    This is your lucky day:

I requested a mod on that forum for the sp54025 BIOS to remove the whitelist, and it is ready and working (tested).

Dang, I just don't get it. I can run BC2 fine in single player but every time I try to log into a sever for multi player the loading spinner eventualy locks up and then after some time it boots me back to the main menu screen.

Yeah I figured out the problem with GTA4. The video is only displayed when I run on the 6620G, and it does not work when I run the 6750m. Crossfire disabled. The FPS freaking blows (30ish on absolute minimum settings)

Well I'm committed now. I started hacking up my DV6z. Hopefully get a chance to finish what I started tonight. Still be waiting on some heatsinks though.

I just got my new laptop cooler, a Coller Master Notepal X2. I ran my 3dmark11 bench test again and my temps have dropped from 77.6C to 72C.

That's good, but not nearly enough. The whole issue stems from no real holes for cool air to enter. The slits underneath have a mesh too which really restricts any amount of airflow.

I will post pics. Right now it's not looking real pretty, but I need to get out the file and sandpaper to the plastic stuff I cut.
