I have a HP dv7 which recently suffered a motherboard/overheating issue. It will not start without the battery and the battery will not charge consistently. I am sending it in to be fixed but I wanted to wipe the hard drive.

HP Recovery Manager is out as it will not start/continue on AC power. Reinstalling Windows 7 must be done while plugged in as well. I think I can bypass this restriction by disabling the power management section in the BIOS.

Anyways I cannot seem to find the power management/utility section in the BIOS (F.07). Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to access the power management in BIOS? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Overheated by naked girls eh? :)

The bios options in laptops are pretty limited compared to desktops.

Just contact HP and let them know you are sending without a HD due to "highly sensitive" data that you can't let out of your possession..

You could also get something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812123312 and hook the drive up to a different computer to wipe

Ah thank you for your response. I was hoping there could be a way to access it. I'll just have to chance the installation then. I'm sending it out tomorrow so there's no time for any other option.

If all you want to do is wipe the drive then you could also make a bootable gparted linux disc. Boot with that, wipe the drive. No OS would be on it but HP would be able to re image it.

Thanks, I was thinking of using my live linux cd but was hesitant a bit. Mostly because I was unsure whether sending HP back a clean hard drive without a OS would cause a problem for me.
